CIMA - E1 Organisational Management

Hello Wolfie,

I have looked at E1 but I decided to sit P1 followed by F1 first, the reason being how wordy E1 is I don't want to have to re read E1 when I come to do the case study exam.
so my plan is to sit E1 just before I start looking at the case study.

As it's easy to do resits now with CIMA I'd recommend you sit the exam, even if you fail you will learn a lot about the new CBE process. You like me are properly a little nervous as its your first CIMA exam but you are properly more ready than you think and will properly do a lot better than you assume.

I sat P1 19/02/2015 and passed it. I have F1 booked for the 05/05/2015.
The biggest tip I can give by far is to practise as many questions to time as possible, I found it impossible to answer all the questions in the exam.
Study hours I'm unsure, I think around 90-100 hours for P1.

I'm sure but there are no written answers for any of the objective tests so I would assume all of E1 will be multiple choice, they may have some questions based on a mini case study which would properly only consist of one paragraph of information for the question.

I think all objective exams have the same time limit and all have 60 questions, so I think for the E1 exam I will personal just practise multiple choice styled questions.

Yes I self study
I have a routine which is study for 2 hours a night Mon-Fri and about 10 hours over the weekend - I work full time Mon- Fri

In general I like to go through the book once just highlighting key areas and to get a feel for things I know the areas in which I'm comfortable or not comfortable with. After I have done this I go back to the start and do the learning and revision per chapter at the same time, re-capping back every 3 chapters. - I do it this way so when I hit the end of the book I'm ready to sit the exam straight after.

As for you purchasing lessons I can't comment on that as we are all different when it comes to how we best learn, however studying can work out expensive so I would recommend self study first and see how you go.

Be as resourceful as you can i.e.

Use this forum along with as many other forums as you can

Youtube is great for free recorded learning material

There's so much cross over between CIMA & ACCA (especially for F1)so use ACCA forums and search for ACCA free videos/materials. - think Acorn have some really good free videos as I think LSBF do as well.

Use the CIMA web page for F1 and other exam there are loads of questions and answer PDF's from past papers you can use/print off.

Use the code in the front on your book on the Kaplan website you will get access to some good learning and revision material for your F1.

That's pretty good going 20 hours a week.. I probably average 10 hours a week but that will be more like 30 hours in the run up to the exam..

Firstly congrats on passing P1!!

Secondly when you studied P1 did you think the Kaplan practice questions were similar to the actual exam questions?

If I remember rightly when I studied AAT level four the Kaplan questions were of greater difficulty than the actual exam questions (my own personal opinion of course) which put you in good stead for the exam.

Yes 60 questions is a lot for 90 minutes.
I would say in my P1 exam half the questions were multiple choice
Anyone thinking these CBE would be a lot easier than before will be in for a shock

yeah you are correct but also a lot of standard questions which you have to do quite a bit of working outs to get an answer

Did you find the practice material you used before hand to be of similar difficulty i.e. Kaplan practice exam questions, practice exams from CIMA etc?

I sat and passed F1 yesterday, I'm not quite sure how as I really struggled in the exam.

I self studied for all three operational papers and found E1 the easiest. I found the Aptitude tests on CIMAstudy website very helpful. I have also attempted all the questions at the end of each chapter in the text book and the past papers on CIMA website.
