VAT return documents

Dear All
A friend of mine is complaining that her client only sends her bank statements for VAT return.
I am wondering if bank statements are sufficient enough to carry out the work. Surely that the bank statements shows all the income and expenditure and she might be able to call her client to find out the purpose for the expenditure or a sale, but without seeing the actual invoices...
Hope you can help to clear my puzzled mind,
kind regards,
Hong

I agree with your friend. As a VAT agent she has a duty to satisfy herself that the VAT has been correctly charged on invoices and claimed on purchases. She can only to this if she has copies of the original documents.0

Many thanks for the reply, Marie, your thought is the same as mine

I thought she should ask for and obtain the copy of invoices that the VAT calculation has been accounted for.
Kind regards,
