indirect tax - box 1

Hello, do zero rated purchases from outside the EU go in box 1 of a vat return. I asked my tutor and he said yes but then other people have told me no. Also if it does is it just the amount of the purchase (because the vat is zero rated)?

    No. Box 1 is VAT on Sales. Box 9 is for net EU purchases
