On Thursday we break up for the summer. Hooray!

But....

before we do that we have to hand our portfolios over for signing off.

I did my foundation portfolio and because they have revised the standards I have to amend and update parts of my folio, like Health and Safety. This is really a pain. I have enough to do with full-time work and college and running a family and trying to have a bit of fun in my life (not that much fun as you can imagine I don't have that much time left over) without having to do things twice. Nevermind. Whinge, whinge moan.!

I now have been told that the powers that be may be abolishing the portfolio next year.

Does anyone know if this is true?

I belive they are being abolished from next year.

If you think the AAT portfolio is bad, you should have seen the Information Technology NVQ from about 4 years ago. It took four weeks full time to reference. We had to provide evidence that we could do a bar chart as well as a column chart in Excel on three occasions each!! It reached the point where we had to write memos ourselves for managers to sign just to have an excuse to do something that was needed for the portfolio. A complete waste of time.0 -

Hi

There was a small article in May's (poss April's) PQ Magazine that mentioned, with a statement from the AAT's Education and Training Director, that the AAT may do away with the protfolio format and instead work will just need to be kept on file.

Portfolio's are only really necessary if the External Verifier wants to check work, I never actually bothered putting one together for Intermediate as the centre I was with signed units off one by one from my devolved assessments.

Neil0 -

During a recent AAT Careers Advisors Network (CAN) training weekend we were informed that portfolio's were to be phased out.

David Reid
Careers Advisor - Cheshire0 -

Don't worry. I finished Intermediate in 2001 and never did my H&S. It didn't stop me going onto Technician. I doubt I'll ever get around to doing it. H&S can always be done at your place of work anyway.0 -

Hi

You do realise that if you dont do the H&S, you wont be awarded the full NVQ/stage?0 -

Yes.
Last year I actually got as far as compiling a Risk Assesment of my workplace, in accordance with 1974 H&S Act, and had it signed off by our Quality Manager. I sent this to my tutor and I was told it wasn't what they were looking for. So what was the point I asked myself.0 -

Hi

It might seem a pointless effort ( i think its an insult to inteligence) but if you dont do all units required, you wont get your NVQ Certificate, which might cause problems with exemptions should you go on after AAT.0 -

I know what you mean - what I'm getting at, is if the risk assesment I did satisfies a legal requirement, why is it not good enough for an AAT assesment? I think the tutor just couldn't be bothered with it on that particular day. A very poor show.0 -

You sound just like me! I skipped Foundation level and went straight to intermediate and was told, about March or April, the portfolio had to be in by 22nd June. On top of year end at work, revising for the June exam, rying to help the kids through their SAT's and other exams, all the other business of having a life...Come the 22nd...It didn't have to be in by then at all because I only started in January, not last Summer. Now I hear they might scrap it. Yes, do it now!!!!
0 -

the non-portfolio route will not be available until September 2005 - so hard luck to any one that thought they won't need to do one for the next academic year

sorry for the bad news folks
0
