Hi there guys.

I have just left secondary school and I am hopefully going to start on an accountancy modern apprenticeship at the end of september/beggining of October in and work towards an AAT qualification. I was just wondering if anyone has any hints and tips on how to get on, on the course.

    Hi there!

First thing i must say is GOOD LUCK! I wish i had your direction and ambition when i was your age!!

Oh well. Anyway, go for it. You may be better suited to home study, as you have just left school and are prob sick of classrooms! But if you are not sick of classrooms then have a look in your local college prospectus. As far as i am aware, you can get the courses for free, due to your age.

Work hard, study hard and you will get your rewards!

Best of luck!

Helenx

Go to college m8. The support network you get there is not to be underestimated. Besides which, you'll soon be old enough to join in the 'social calendar'

Go for it!
I have been working in a private practice for 1 year now, and am half way though a HNC to go onto ACCA next year.

Your not too young to get right in there just now! Do what I did, and telephone local accountancy practices. That way you will get your course paid for.

My second recommendation is if you go to college is do the part time course, not the full time one.

I found full timers at my college were a bunch of wasters, who disrupted class and did not use their time efficiently.

The part timers on the other hand had a much wider circle of people, and everyone pulled together more to get where people really wanted to go.

It depends on the person you are. I can get on with someone aged 40 as easily as someone aged 16, so this is a factor.

Do not get the impression it is boring, or full of oldies though - and remember age means wisdom. If your going to be an accountant you better get this thought into you.

Keep your head up, don't try to copy everyone else as remember majority of people fail professional exams - you need to be part of the minority to do well. This is not school.

Feel free to contact me in person and I can go indepth on how I did it.
