You are not alone with your studying, I am planning to take 4 Centrals in December and I have created a study plan from Sunday to Friday with Saturday off, which allows for two chapters on Sundays and a chapter a day on the other days which includes activities and key technique questions, I am using FTC books, which I am finding easy to work through.

I am about half way through DFS and will be going onto BTC next, what's BTC like is it very difficult to understand, as I have been led to believe?

I have heard that PEV is a follow up on ECR, so I would start that one first, if I was you and I have PEV and PCR in one texbook, which I should finish in a week and half.

So you are not alone and I believe it's doable.0 -

I think you're very brave (and dedicated)! I started PEV/PCR and DFS home study about a month ago and will be taking them in december, i'm doing about 7/8 hours a week at the moment all together (don't think my brain could take anymore than that). I have found PEV/PCR not too bad so far, costing still reasonably fresh in my mind from intermediate.

Am not trying to discourage you it's just that there's only 3 months til the exams and you're still gonna be looking at another few hours a week to get a good grip on the costing papers. If you are a major brainbox and have the motivation and won't go totally insane I salute you. But if you're normal don't overdo it, 6 months in the grand scheme of things isn't that long to wait before you could take the june sitting!

Have you already sat the personal tax paper or are you going for a simulation for your other option?0 -

I found PEV & DFS the hardest units and did one Dec and one June so I think you're brave taking them together!! However you must know your own strengths - go for it if you're confident!0 -

I took five in June and passed them all, after two months of intensive studying. If you won't seriously damage your health, go for it

Good luck

Ditti 0 -

Two months of intensive studying doesn't go well with full time work! Not sure if you work full time Ditti but I think you do, how do you manage it??

Personally I would rather be comfortable that I could pass than rush anything and risk a fail.

Only you know how well you pick things up and how easily you can be distracted.

Good luck
Annette0 -

crikey i had been worried about doing the two costing papers ( not done standard costing tho, did new standards last year so it all new on that side, havent already been thru variances etc) AND personal tax all in december but after reading this thread that seems a doddle compared to what others are thinking of doing?? and to think i was thinking i was taking on to much??

just to ask tonychapronie, the first message.......... all that studying... you work full time? in accounts? and do you have any family or house to look after? i have two young children a hubby and house to look after ( so all the usual cooking shopping cleaning etc etc etc) plus i work evenings mon-fri so cant study then like most plus we own our own business which i do all the accounts for and also help out, possibly expanding in the next month so even more time needed from me!!!!!!!!!!

good luck if you do get thru all the exams, i admire your determination and could do with just a sprinkling of it :-)

0 -
Technician - I AM ASTOUNDED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear all,

my godness! You surely put me to shame! I winge and complain if I have to study the whole week end and some of you actually manage to do it during the week!!!!!! I, quite frankly, refuse to study during the week, I work hard and long hourse, I will take my course on a saturday this year (technician) and really hope it is not going to be traumatic!

I cannot honestly say I am enjoying this course (I did phylosophy at university!) but I enjoy working as a management accountant and it is necessary for the prograssion of my career that I gain a professional qualification.

Well, good luck to us all and my uttermost respect and admiration for those of you who are so dedicated, it is almost inspirational! :-)

PS
I would also like to thank thos of you who have helped me with my questions!
Minerva0 -

i to am using the FTC books, and business tax has a lot to remember, but ive (hopefully) covered it all now!! the good thing i find with tax is its right or its wrong. with other elements of accounts there is a degree of flexibility. its hard work, but beacause i enjoy it, i am motivated to do the study.
I do also find the time to have a (pretty) normal life!! i took the p/tax paper earlier in the year, so at least thats out of the way!0
