I'am Treasurer of a local charity with income and expenditure under £10000 each year. Although not mandatory, we have our accounts independently examined as a measure of good practice.

In this financial year, our independent examiner has donated some money (less than 0.25% of our approximate anuual income). Ethically speaking, can our independent examiner still examine our accounts or should we select someone who has no connection at all with the charity in this financial year.

On behalf of the trustees, any input will be most welcome.

Many thanks for your help.

I don't think there is a problem on the grounds:

1. The amount is immaterial (£25?)
2. The money is received in the normal course of the charity's business. i.e. if our auditors bought software off of us it wouldn't mean they couldn't audit our accounts.
3. The audit is being undertaken voluntarily.
