Hi

my husband owns a small garage and at the moment his accounts are just entered in a simplex D. Only has about 25 each of sales and purchase invoices per week and about 50 bank payments per month. I wanted to put his acs on computer (also to use for my mas project). Has anyone got any suggestions for which package I should use. I use tas in work but for larger companies.

Would be grateful for any help/suggestions

thanks in advance

denise (zippy)

Denise

Why don't you put them on a spreadsheet in excel, I do some bookkeeping for a preschool and I have set up all sheets on excel which I can send you if you like. Just mail me (address in profile) if it would be of any use to you.

For your project, it costs better as most pc's have office on them somewhere!!

Annette

Sage is useful yes, but only if your going to utilise it fully.

I'd ask - do you reconcile his bank, and is he VAT registered. Sage can make these easier, but only if you know the basic principles to carry these jobs out manually.

If you just want to have what is essentially a "computerised cashbook" I'd say Excel wins. Just when providing the information to your Chartered Accountant for final accounts production, I'd provide the spreadsheet on a floppy disk rather than handing over printouts.

I'd be very happy to send you a template.
