Hey!

The purchase ledger control account (or sales ledger control) is the part that you use in the double entry. Basically it is a summary of all individual supplier accounts (or customer accounts in the sales ledger).

To put it in real terms if you are a credit controller and need to know what is outstanding you dont want to be fishing through each individual account to see what remains outstanding as a total. therefore the control accounts show everything as a whole. This is also helpful when constructing a trial balance as the debtors and creditors can be listed as bulk rather than individually (and Im sure you have many of these accounts).

The individual supplier/customer accounts are NOT used in the double entry. The Control accounts are included.

Hope this helps
Laura0 -

Keep on at it, you will find one day that all will click into place. Im studying technician and I was close to giving up. Once you get past these stages it becomes easy.

Are you learning any "systems" for the debits and credits? i found "PEARLS" helpful.

P urchases
E xpenses
A ssets = debits

R evenue
L iabilities
S ales = credits

there are loads out there but find the best one that works for you.

If you want any more help use these boards, you will find that other students post helpful hints and they are explained in easy terms. Textbooks can be very technical and not always too helpful!!!

Regards
Laura0 -

It is well known that simulations are MUCH harder than the real exams. They are more intense.

Hope you get the results you are after
Laura0 -
