Hi,

I thought I would write this as I was desperate to know all about an awards ceremony before I went.

I went to the awards ceremony in Nottingham on Friday 19th Novemeber taking my husband as my guest.
We had a frazzled day getting there from near Heathrow with car problems and traffic delays and arrived at our hotel with only half hour before our taxi was due to collect us (my hair needed washing abnd the hairdryer went bang).
However we managed to be ready on time and arrived at the Albert Hall at 6.30 as we had planned.

What a great evening.

As I had booked and payed for my photographs online we walked straight into the studio for our photographs to be taken. They are fab. We payed £5.00 extra per print to have them both put onto cd rom so this meant that I was able to email them straight to my parents and family when we got home last night (Sunday).

After our photographs we went into the drinks reception where there was a choice of red or white wine, OJ, or sparkling water. While we were enjoying our drinks Jess Bond came over and chatted for a while (a lot of aat council members where there chatting to delegates).

The actual presentation was very well organized with plenty of time allowed for each delegate to have their photographs taken. The ceremony was conducted with humour but at the same time with enough respect that you felt you had achieved something that you had worked hard for.

I felt very comfortable in my trouser suit as most other women were dressed similar with a few wearing jacket and skirts.

After the ceremony was the buffet. Yum Yum. The food was great. There was hot food - pizza, sausage rolls, chicken, jacket wedges with salsa or cheesy toppings and cold - open sandwiches and rolls with at least five different fillings and there was plenty of it.
The head of Education and Training joined us for our buffet. She was very approachable (and has two lovely children).
There were stands by accoutemps and FTC and an AAT stand with info about membership and cpd. I was lucky enough to bag myself an AAT Pen!!!!!

All in all it was a great evening and even my husband said he had a really good night. The AAT `people` were all very approachable and friendly.

I would like to say thank you very much to the AAT for a great evening,

Regards,

Sarah

    Hi Sarah,
I find the way of inviting members to events very confusing. I live in Greater London but my invitation to the event was for Brighton which I rejected and ticked the London December 3rd box. I was put on a wait list as most people who were invited to London (maybe from Hampshire) had accepted.

When I attended my last CPD event I was given a name badge puting me in the Nort West Kent Branch, this is a disbanded branch and it should have been London

The AAT maybe good at representing it's members but it is no good at geography.
Hi Andy,
The ceremony my invitation was for was in The Barbican Centre, London but I was away when the invite came and all the places were full when I phoned to book. I was given all the other available venues and dates and my husband and I decided to make an occasion of it and go to Nottingham for the weekend. I didn`t see a London Dec 3rd event!!! The Barbican Centre date was Oct. or early Nov? I was on the wait lkist for Nottingham but did get to go.
Are you going?
I have no idea which Branch I will go to for CPD as the venue for my local branch is further away than an other area.

Thanks for replying to my post and best of luck for the future,

Sarah

    Hi Purple,

Gap and gowns are not worn for the AAT Awards Ceremonies but I know that some individual colleges do a cap and gown ceremony.

My sister in law has worn cap and gown for her degree ceremony and when she got her Masters. She had worn a low top for the second time around and it didn`t look as good in the photos as she looked bare. It is worth knowing that the gowns are apparently designed to be worn with shirts rather than blouses so it is useful to take a pin to pin it in position I got this info from the successphotography.com web site. They took the photos for the AAT ceremony.

I would have loved to have worn a cap and gown but I am really pleased now that I have seen my photos because they still looked good with a certificate to hold tied with a ribbon plus I got a new suit to wear.

I hope you have a great time. Let me know how it went.

Sarah

p.s. My sister in law wore a skirt and strappy sandals for her photo and it did look a bit odd. I prefererred her photo the first time around. You could ask the gowners for advice.
