i worried now. people mentioning fixed costs? should we have used hi low?? i read it as variable in line with production so did soemthing like added 40% on as we had uped the production by 40%.<BR><BR>sounds like eveyone got diff figures but as someone has said so long as we have used our figures to justify the closure or not and mentioned what they asked for in the memo we should get credit.0 -

what a nightmare the revised p a l.<BR>did anyone get a fixed element of 190 000 for the selling and distribution costs. think the variable cost was some thing like 1.50or 15 a unit. dont know if this is right seem to have got a different figure to everyone else.0 -

well I missed the point then. I thought the question said to compare ratios and comment so that's what I did. The result was not much different but it was slightly better (on my answer) so that's what I said. I never advised regarding closure. I didn't have time! I felt a time constraint today and there seemed far too much to comment on and think about to put it all on paper in the time alloted. I thought, all in all, it was pretty awful. ugh.0 -

it doesn't really matter whether you said that they should shut factory A or not. Not everyone would have got the profit and loss right so everyone would have a different profit figure so as long as you base your decision on whether to shut the factory on your profit and loss account you should be ok.<BR><BR>but i do agree with everyone else, the paper was hard and section 2.2 was awful. I think that it might be worth quite a few marks as well because section 2.3 said briefly explain!!!!0 -

So reassuring to hear everyone thought the same about section 2. I agree it was the worst paper I've come across, thought I had it all covered until I read section 2!! I'll be very suprised if I've passed this one. Maybe thay wanted us to say that there wasn't enough information and that they were all assumptions - not that I thought about that until after the exam (as you do!).0 -

i said not too shut down fact a as well, so at least not on my own, but someone said there was no diff in op profit? i got about 70000 something better off on op profit but it was still down on the total of the two factories operating profit. got a bit blank on some of the costs, how to work out the diff, funny how your mind goes blank isnt it!!! couldnt even think of 3 pysical measures as i sat there looking at the paper!! The word EXAM puts a block on my brain!!<BR><BR>also got stuck on the labour cap ratio for some reason and had about 4 attempts!! <BR><BR>two more to go this week tho so time to turn to them now and forget todays.0 -

Yer i agree the June 2004 paper i sat and failed but it was the junior version of this SUPER SIZE me version in December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!10 -

When I saw sec 2 I thought id got the wrong paper. Did DFS June and passed but didnt realise would have p&l on PEV paper! Have revised 3 years worth of past papers and not one p&l. What profit/loss did anyone get please? Section 1 easy and sure im ok but section 2 complete suprise. V sick about it. Anyone else?0 -

thank god you all feel the same as me.<BR><BR>you should have seen the smile on my face after section 1. i thought id pass for sure.<BR><BR>then the first part of section 2, as predicted, but then.....shock horror..........what the hell is this all about. my conclusion was also not to shut factory A, but im not sure that my p&l was accurate, i didnt think there was enough info.<BR><BR>anyway fingers crossed (this was my resit, wish i had studied for the june paper, it was so much easier)<BR><BR>and good luck to you all!!0 -

Yer were right really Nic not to close the Factory A was the right choice as there was no difference after i calculated the Operating progit margin on the revised P & L .......oh it was awful....The June 2004 paper was soooo much easier.......0 -
