Revised budget, my paper is full of tepex. I started to revise the budget the way I was told to in the revision class. But I realised that what was required wasn't that. So I tepexed, then started again, then I realised it was wrong again, then I re-tepexed and re-did it turned over the paper and realised that the cost of materials depended on what I calculated in the previous question, at this point I am ready to cry I did it anyway did the labour question and then finished Section 1 went on to a better Section 2, good calculation of the linear regression equation (trends and forecasts), Flexed budget and wrote 3 pages of 2.2 hoping to redeem myself. I just hope I have passed and I am sure we all hope that, the only paper I don't want to write or and business tax too.

Regards,

Nafisa

Nightmare Section 1 PCR
Hi Nafisa
Mine was a nightmare too. Section 1 was the worst, esp the revised production budget. I couldnt finish mine, I ran out of time. Some of our lot left after an hour or so, Im not sure if they just sacked it or whether they were super efficient.

Same as June 2003, because i got stuck early on, it kinda knocked my confidence a bit for the rest, and I couldnt completely get part one out of my mind.

I attempted everything and finished all except the revised prod budget.

However i seem to think I read the y=a=bx thing wrong as I have heard other peeps were putting ms excel formulas in. Is that correct?

Sandy0 -

i too struggled with the revised budget, this is my main problem area and no matter how many times I practised it, it never worked!! i couldn't believe it when i saw it as task 1.2. I struggled with it, it totally wrong and threw my confidence completely, i too almost cried, went all shakey and was so tempted to walk out! I then proceded to make a mess of the rest of section 1. I'm really hacked off with myself, as i know i can do it, just that one question completely threw me, as it always does! To make it even more annoying section 2 i feel went really well!!0 -

Ha ha. I totally agree with section 1 being a waste of time. They could have made it easier for us instead of asking questions in such an anal way. Question format would suit some people though. Some accountants are anal, brings back memories of the accountancy practice where I used to work...0 -

Never mind you are not alone I too struggled with the revised budget went of on the wrong track completely, was not sure what they were asking for seems obvious after reading what others have put. I suppose ther is always another chance to try again in June.0 -

i was exactly the same, sat there crossed things out then did it the same again and then had another idea, what a mess!! I just couldn't think straight after that either!! i thought i'd done ok with the linear thingy until i heard others put in the spreadsheet formula! Section two I hope was fine!

0 -

Same boat too. I moved the materials in periods 3 & 4 and put them all in period one when i should have put some in period two first. Hopefully i should get some marks for my own figures and showing some sort of understanding. Feel pretty low about it at the moment and just before Christmas too0 -

I thought that section 1 was ok- ish. Found one bit of it hard, but hope to have carried forward marks.

I put an excel spreadsheet formula in. I'm sure thats what they asked for. Maybe not?

MissL, what are you trying to say about people who work in accountancy firms?0 -

You've got me worried here!!! I made it that we were told that 60,000 ltrs MAXIMUM of material were available in each period. In period 1, we did not need that much material and in period 2 the same. Periods 3 and 4, the actual production required was way above what was materially available; therefore, I moved my excess from period two to cover period 3 shortfall and to cover part of period 4 shortfall and then I moved part of period 1 excess to finish off the cover for period 4. Have I done it all wrong then!!!!

For the spreadsheet, I read the question as just having to put in the formula in the 4 cells and went to the answer book and did just that. Something along the lines of: B1 + (b2*(b3+b4)) - that was similar for both just getting the costs - then to apply the seasonalisation I just said : B7 + B6

Why does it take so long to get our results?????0 -

I think you did. didn't they mention in the question that materials had to be used in the same period as they were bought. so it looks like you couldn't by in period 1 and keep it untill period 4. but we were allowed to increse stocks and produce more. that's why we should produce more in period 1 and 2.
Not sure though. maybe I missed something...???0 -

The problem is I am moving onto ACCA whether I pass AAT or not. Will have to wait until February 16th to know one way or the other, I hate the fact that I have to wait two months to find out if I passed the AAT exams.0
