question........... we are a retail shop, have between one to 6 sales receipts per day, people pay for goods at time of purchase , they dont receive an invoice. how do i enter this? would i need to enter each sales recEipt or just a daily takings? also VAT, another prob, if the customer signs the sales receipt they do not pay vat, however if they dont because they are not eligible under vat notice 701/7, then they do not pay vat. is this easy to sort on inputting receipts or does it automatically work out the vat??

any help so gratefully received, would love to find an accounting package i can use rather than manual books!

happy new year

easiest way would be input via journal document. do say weekly sheets & post toal takings for week to CR sales & DR cash control account. then when cash is banked CR cash control DR Bank via another journal. vat calculates automatically. hope this helped. let me no if u need more help danny_carr83@hotmail.com
0 -

Hi Tigercat

All our income relates to payments of invoices but I think when I was learning this system there were often cash receipts without invoices and these were dealt with by way of total takings at the end of the day were entered as a cash receipt - Bank module/Receipts/Select Cash or Bank (bank only if takings are actually banked on that day). When you come to bank your cash takings you simply treat this as a transfer - Bank module/Transfer then select Cash (From) Bank (To) and enter all other details.

Hope I haven't missed your point and over simplified this. I notice this is simply your training disc and would agree that Instant Accounts is so much cheaper but if I remember rightly I think you may already have this.

Good luck - I think once your codes are set up how you need them and you actually start inputting data you will find it much easier.0 -
You may also want to consider using 'Quickbooks' if you are only entering 1-6 sales receipts and if you want a package which is practical, but very noddy to use.

I've used a variety of accounting software and although Sage is well known, I certainly would not recommend it for small businesses as I've found that people tend to think it is overcomplicated.

Ben0
