Skills test feedback 'not enough time!'

I've just sat through a Unit 5 Skills test and it seems 4 hours is not enough time to do it in! I thought the exams was supposed to test you against time and that this was much less important in the skills test.

How did everyone else do? Maybe i was under the impression that it was easily do-able, since I was able to finish the exam for the same unit well in the time alloted. Not only that - my preparations through a home study manual also meant that I finished early.

If anyone else feels this way, what tips do you have for doing the test? (maybe for next time) If I'm not able to do the last two or three tasks will I have to do the test again?

The purpose of a skills test is just that, to test your skills; and, yes, it is difficult in four hours.

However, after your test, the assessor is supposed to speak with you to discuss any difficulties you had, and yo guide you on improvements. The assessor needs to remember that you may not be working in accounts, yet, and that you may need more time. Although it's important to meet deadlines, it's far more important to be accurate.

I was listening to a commentary on the radio, this morning, about income tax returns. The suggestion was made that it was better to send an estimated return with a cheque for that value than to miss the deadline. That's how I see assessments. It's an opportunity to show how much you know. But it's also an opportunity to see how much you don't know.

Ask your assessor for some more detailed feedback so that you can improve. But don't worry about it.

If it's any conolation, our tutors feel that Unit 5 is the most intense in the whole course and that, because there is so much to cover, it's also very difficult. The fact that you did it says a lot about you.

Michael
Hiya

I did the intermediate stage last year!!! The Skills test on unit 5 took me 4 hours 45 minutes, so don't worry. That unit was just so intense. Just keep plugging away at it. After taking that skills test I went home and had a beer!!! My brain was frazzled!!! If I can do it anybody can. I am now on the technician stage (scary) and dreading the exams in June 05.

Thanks to all! - it's good to know there are others out there that have gone thru what I have gone thru and survived. It was my first assessment and I was a bit nervous, but I think I'll be able to cope now. Cheers again!
