A client doctor has had his self-employed travel expenses to a clinic refused during an Investigation on the grounds that this is a travel to work expense. Has anyone overcome this refusal with past clients?

    I thought the rules were quite clear that, basically, you cannot claim for your first journey from home to your place of work each day, nor for your last journey from your place of work back home. Any travel in between, however, can be claimed.<BR><BR>So, if he leaves home in the morning and goes to the clinic, he cannot claim that. Then, he goes to visit patients at home. He can claim that mileage. Finally, he goes home, adn he cannot claim that.<BR><BR>I may be wrong, of course, but that's the way I understand it.

    If the travel is to his regular place of work he cannot claim travel expenses, but if he is travelling to a clinic that is not his regular place of work he can claim travel expenses from his home to the clinic for a maximum of two years.<BR>You will have to prove to the IR that his travel is to a place other than his normal place of work.<BR><BR>Hope this helps.<BR><BR>Terry<BR>
