Hello,everyone,
I have just got a part-time job as a small club treasurer, I will soon take over the role.Is there anyone who has done this job before, could you please give me some information about it, for I have no experience at all.

For it's a small club, so I think there is only a cash book, expense account, income account. At the year end, I will do an income and expenditure account, a balance sheet. Is that right?

Thank you very much!

I presume that is correct. I suspect if the club is really small then it will not require an audit. If this club is in receipts of grants from a governing body (i.e a sports council) then the governing bodies may insist on a predetermined income / expense format, and possibly a balance sheet format too.

You say that you are due to take over the role soon, why not have a chat to who is currently preparing the accounts. Itâ??s quite likely that they will know what the situation is, unless you are inheriting a pile of rubbishâ?¦presumable you will need to speak to them in order for them to sign over petty cash, bank balances etc - the last thing you wanna find is that there is cash missing before you even start as treasure.

0 -

You are quite right.I have just talked with the present treasurer, she put all the receipts and payments in a folder and record these very simple. So I have to set up accounts by myself.
The club receives grants, and there are some donations and member's subscription. But now I think I will only use a cash book to record all the transactions, then do the final accounts at the year end.0 -

Yeah...that seems to be logical. Also, you can probably just follow the previous accounts format being sure to include the comparative figure - see your well on your way now

Regards0
