I study from the BBP text books - yes I'm doing the activites as they come!

I started my intermediate in January and I do long distance learning! I'm just finding it so hard to get a grip off! I feel like I'm reading the words and thats it! Its really getting me down and I have no motivation to pick up my book again! Haven't touched it in a week!0 -

Have you got a Workbook (not sure if BBP call them assessment kits) with extra questions in?

How far you now? Are you doing FRA or ECR or Both? If you are doing both do you think you might be taking on too much?

All I do is read a chapter - then do the activities then do the activities in the work book, then go onto the next chapter!
If there is a time where I dont feel like writing, I will read a few chapters and then another day, re-read the chapter and do the activites.
I find in FRA, than once you have done 1 chapter and read on, it re-covers the chapter before, so by the time you are on the last one you have done chpater 1 a million times (or it seems)
There is nothing wrong with Re-reading what you have already read. Make notes, or highlight your textbooks (providing they are your own) with bits that you need to remember, then when you re-read things - the text jumps out and somehow you can remember it!!

Did you do foundation via home study too? Didnt you feel at the start that you would never get there? Didnt you feel that double entry was a nightmare and you couldnt understand it? Well you must have got through foundation to be here now! So just think, how ever hard it seems at first - you will get there!

Amanda0 -

Hi Trixxy

I'm in the middle of the Foundation course but I'm studying at a college. It's so much better when you've got to get out and meet with like minded people who are in the same position as yourself. Is there no-one where you live doing the same or similar course that you can get together with for inspiration and motivation?

My intention is to complete to Technician stage but I'm finding doing an NVQ very stressful. When I've finished my day in college I'm so drained that I have very little motivation to do any course work at home. It's only with the help of a couple of the girls that I actually get anything done.

Contact your local college to see if there is anyone on the AAT intermediate course who needs a study partner.

Good Luck

Freda0 -

I went straight into Intermediate level as I had previously completed a 2yr book-keeping course with the IAB.

The difference is huge!

Of course I don't mean it is nice to hear of other people struggling, but I am so relieved reading this that I can now think "its not just me!"

At the outset of the course I was dead set on continuing to Technician stage, and beyond. However I am finding this course is so demanding (combined with kids, home and job) that I now do not know whether to continue or not.

The most useful thing I have done (and can recommend) is to buy another set of text books from a different author. We were told to buy the Osbourne - David Cox books by our tutor but there were parts of the ECR that I just couldn't take in, so I bought the BPP Books as well. I couldn't really say which set is better - but I find if I am struggling on a particular chapter in one book, I can read the other book and sometimes just the way it is worded, or an example is shown, makes a lot of difference.

I am now at the stage where I really do have respect for anyone who has passed these AAT courses, they really do deserve the recognition they get by employers etc.

0 -

Hi,

I've had a look at the subjects and brought the Frank Wood 1 and 2 books which seem really clear. It's a bit of a shock at all the stuff to learn and seems a great jump but I'll keep at it. Keep chin up and do your best. Take relaxation exercises and relaxing music while studying to help keep focussed. Regular breaks help too.
All the best.

Sonia.0
