Can someone please let me know how I can actually pass this Foundation year? I have got nowhere with my college or tutor, sounds unbelievable but I get no real answers. I failed Skills tests 1 & 3, (sound a thickie eh but my work supervisor and I can't see why) and cannot provide any work based evidence due to not actually working in a purchase ledger environment. How else can I prove I can actually do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Failed skills tests - what next?
Hi X5Wrangler,
What sort of envirnment do you work in? And what textbooks do you use. I would sugget you get hold of the Osbourne Textbook and work book designed for AAt foundation. I found it very helpful last year when I did my foundation course. have you tried speaking to your course director at the college?
Lollypops0 -

Hi lollypops,

I work on Profit & Loss and non-staff accounting. All our purchase ledger is centralised and dealt with elsewhere. I work for a large employer so it is difficult to get access to this evidence as I don't work with it. I am hugely disappointed with my skills tests results even though I passed my exam last June. I challenged my tutor and I was told to get another one! I am on a home study course and have to rely solely on my study pack, I feel my tutor is marking me to his standards rather than my study packs.
I have spoken with my co-ordinator about it all and she suggested talking to my tuor who says, wait for it..... get another one!!!! It's a shambles to be honest but I would like to know how I can retrieve evidence. Is there supplimentary questions or something that can be put to me.
Feel very deflated with it all...........
Cheers for replying, I will have a look at what you are suggesting.
Mandy0 -

Hi X5Wrangler,

You can speak to you employer if they could allow you half a day a week to see how other departments in you organization work. (You didn't say whether they are funding your course). You can explain to them that you are trying to achieve The AAT Foundation Qualification and if they would consider assisting you in achieving this. It sure doesn't hurt to ask. Also, you can mention to them that it would be beneficial to them as an organization if you achieve this qual. It would mean that they have better qualified staff and someone who is willing and keen to learn other areas of the organisation. (shows committment!)
Back to your exams. I f you can get the obsourne books they would definitely help. Especially the WorkBook.(lots of practise simulations. You can buy this from the website or Waterstones or WHsmiths. The web site is www.osbournebooks.co.uk. They deliver in 5 days. I hope this helps. If not I'll try again.
Lollypops0 -

lollypops,

yes, my employer is paying for this, so this is why I'm a little stressed at trying to get this qualification, not only will I be letting myself down but also them and I believe it is company policy that if I fail, I have to pay them back EEK!!!! It should be easier to ask to visit the other departments, as it will benefit all round hopefully, good call that one, thanks.

I'm on to the books...............

Appreciate your help0 -

Hi Andrew

Can i just ask who you are doing home study with? I am with Premier Training and have a similar situation (lack of help) to you. I am also studying Foundation. I did a practice skills test the other day for RIR (i'm about a month behind also) and completely cocked it up! the whole thing took me about 5hours and it was only supposed to take 3 - my tutor said for me to hand it in anyway, i've emailed loads and still have had no repsonse back! All he said was try the next one (MRP) - sometimes i feel like i'm never gonna get through this, its do discouraging0 -

Hi Sarah,

You are one up on me straight away! I have never been sent any practice simulations, I have had to just go straight into it! I didn't realise you could get them until I read about it on this discussion forum and by what other people were saying. I am studying with the National Extension College and it has not been very good service. I have to request the skills tests and they have been taking around 6 weeks to get to me, I worked it out I have lost around 6 months due to waiting for Skills tests to arrive in the post. (Not Royal Mails fault either...). I spoke to the co-ordinator who just said I 'd failed the Skills tests and that was it. I wouldn't pass the year but only the Units I had passed. I took the exam last June, passed, but failed the Skills Test, so are they saying passing the exam is a waste of time? Surely there is some way I can make up for this as I will NEVER pass this year unless I can do a million Skills Tests.
Keep at it with the practices, it really is a good way to do it, I wish I could have found this out a bit earlier.

Good Luck0 -

Hi Sue

many thanks for your offer of copying the skills test but I think I have already blown it and can only do 2 of them. Looking on my Student Record, it looks like you can only have 2 attempts anyway, no matter how or where you are studying. I am trying to find out what my options are as I passed the "assignments" and my exam but don't know what to do next.

I put yesterday aside to start my portfolio and it took me about 30 mins to confirm I was not inspired so I watched TV instead. I know, it's not the right thing to do and I should be more commited but I am being ignored by my tutor and co-ordinator that I have lost a bit of interest hahahaha. I just need a kick up the butt........

Mandy0 -
