I have just applied for a bookkeeping position. The ad is asking for a basic knowledge of cash flow. It's the only thing I'm ignorant of (I'm doing intermediate.) Can anyone help?

Nicola,
i am a bookkeeper, and have to report a weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts to my boss.
What he expects (each company may vary) is to see the current bank/s cleared balance.
i have to show uncleared items, cheques as well as credit items.

Then i have to calculate the outstanding debtors/creditors and make an informed estimate on what is due to come in from debtors, against a more detailed listing of creditors due to be paid. Plus other payments due out like wages/salaries, and other non creditors.

Finally, as we do a lot of 'payment up front business', i have to liase with the production/distribution staff, to see what is scheduled to go out the door, and bring these figures into the forecast.

Because we rung quite a few bank accounts, the idea of this forecast is to enable him and me, to make sure there are sufficient funds in the general account. and transfer any excess to an account to gain a better rate of interest.

The monthly forecast also show this calculated interest.
Not sure if this is of any help to you. But good luck with the interview.
Shaz0 -
