Does anybody know the difference between an SSAP and an FRS. Why are there two different titles and why, when the same number is used, they do not tie up with each other? Example SSAP 4 Accounting for Government Grants and FRS 4 Capital Instruments. Life would be much easier if some form of consistency was employed here. Especially for those of us still trying to learn them!!!
Thanks for any help
Shell

I think that as they are renewed they are reissued as FRS's. If they don't need renewing they stay as the old SSAP's. I have a list of them if you would like me to mail to you. I wrote them on index cards and learned them. Just before the exam I got my husband to test me on them which I found helped.

Annette

If an SSAP becomes outdated it will be revised and reissued as an FRS. For a list of current standards the best place to look is:

www.frc.org.uk

Bear in mind as well the introduction of IFRS, however I believe that most of the FRS's in use are very similar to IFRS anyway as the ASB has been working towards this for some time.

Thanks for that. I just thought if I could understand why one is one and another is the opposite (if you understand) it would be easier to learn.

Thanks for the offe Annette, but our tutor has given us a list of all the ones he reccommends us to learn and I keep writing them out, which is the best way for me to learn things.

Shell
