MAS project help
Hi Roxy

Without going into too much detail and getting into hot water this element relates to the management of people in the a/c environment. You should mention;
1. How you manage your own time identifying the necessity to prioritise tasks and knowing the difference between routine and non-routine tasks (diaries, rolling task lists, gannt charts, etc),
2. The types of fraud, risks and methods of detection (this relates mainly to behavioural aspects of other employees and segregation of duties)
3. Principles of supervision and delegation could be combined with principles of fostering effective working relationship, building teams and motivating staff (you could incorporate the opportunities for training programmes to facilitate multi-skilled staff which also draws in contingency planning).
4. Negotiating with and influencing members of staff to bring about the changes required.

There are a lot of things you could write here and once you start you will be fine. Let me know if you need any more suggestions or if this wasn't really what you were looking for. fiona@familybell.freeserve.co.uk.

0 -
MAS project help
Thanks Fiona for your help on my AAT webiste posting yesterday. I am looking at the structure they have given me and my tutor said to start on introduction is that 7.6. I work as an Assistant Accountant and have many topics to talk about and will streamline it to simple things as Prepayments staff expenses and inter co charges. We have just changed over 2 months ago on to a new accounting package so do you think i can discuss this comparing new to old a/c packages?

Introduction to thisproject is this the biggest section to talk about?

thanks again

if anyone esle can help please do

PS tried to email you but would not work!!0 -

Hi Roxy

Not sure what might be happening with e-mail as I've received a few this morning. I suspect I wrote too much for the introduction (a page and a half -font 10 with one and a half line spacing). We were told that a report for management should not contain a lot of background blurb as management will already know this. However, I felt it necessary so as to provide a backdrop for my train of thought in the rest of the report. My largest part was the Recommendations with Analysis of Current System coming a close second.

I think your package idea sounds excellent but would format the report to highlight any inefficiencies or pitfalls with the old system as if you were still using it and then recommend the new one or, alternatively, you could identify difficulties in adaption to the new package and recommend new procedures and training.

Once I started I really quite enjoyed doing the project. Don't forget to include at least two diagrams as your appendices which can be in the form of a typical diagram, organisation chart or a table (risk assessment or Gannt chart). I enjoyed devising the diagrams (the poncy bit as I call it) and that was what actually kick started the project for me.

Good luck and if you have any problems I have some 'evidence producing questions' which I could send you to help cover all the criteria.

0 -

MAS project help
Roxy

I think it would be best if the project was on one area rather than the whole accounting system. Don't forget to complete a 'SWOT' Analysis within your Analysis of Current Systems (identifying the old system's Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats).

Not sure but I think somewhere in the guides it asks for at least one diagram, perhaps two but our tutor suggested at least two but more if it was appropriate. The diagrams can be an organisation chart to show the line of authority and the organisation structure, an information flow diagram, one of the criteria mentions information resources which could be illustrated in a diagram, a risk assessment and perhaps a control procedures table for each stage in an accounting function identifying the stage, control procedure and the objective of the control.

I think most of this list will help you meet specific criteria but don't simply add them as appendices they need to be mentioned in the report as well.

Please remember, I am not an authority on this subject but have successfully got it out of the way. I saw your message and hoped I could help. This is simply how I approached it but someone else may have different ideas.

0
