I am a member working in the Public Sector. My daughter who has run a small business on a self employed basis for 3 years has asked me prepare her accounts and file Self Assessment Tax returns on her behalf, (FOC of course!). Can anybody provide a standard type letter that I could send to the previous accountant, and ensure he completes the work he has already charged for, i.e. the 04/05 tax return. Also how do we notify revenue of change of accountant?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you write a letter from your daughter where you can inform him what work you think he should have done for the fee paid so far and ask him to confirm it that this is correct. When this work has been done, you need to ask him for copies of the tax return and working papers for capital allowances, fixed assets etc, and if there are any professional reasons why you can't act for her.

As far as Inland Revenue goes you can send off a 64-8 which allows them to talk to you about her tax affairs. I think you can print one of their website.

Annette0
