Hi Mel.

For the sims that were four hours long, our evening class were allowed to take two sessions as they were only 3 hour classes.

Hope this helps.

Scott.

Skills Tests - can you take over two sessions?

Also can you let me know if you were able to correct the work which you had done in the first session in the second session. I am having a bit of a dispute with my college at the moment and need to get the views of others on this

Surely if u r allowed to take them over 2 sessions, then u get the chance to correct the first part! How can they prevent u? Bit unfair really! Or do they split the papers?
I know of someone who took their sim at college for unit 5 over 4 weeks, 1 hour a week, and then that person was allowed extra time to check over their work!
In between they had time to study!
I find this a bit absurd really.
Have done all mine, but had to sit them in one sitting, within the time allowed.
Billy

We have to do ours like this as we have two evening classes a week therefore we don't have time to do one in one session so we have no option but to have to take them over two sessions. We did this no problem with the first two simulations then our tutor went on maternity leave and we had another tutor who had photocopied our papers from Tuesday and said that if we corrected anything we did on Tusday then our papers would be void, although we weren't told this until just before we started again last night so it was news to us that this rule had suddenly come into place so we are all fuming as if we had known this we would have checked the first half of the paper on Tuesday I am just trying to see what others have been allowed to do for these skills test. I don't think that we would be able to sit it over 4 weeks though.

Thanks Mel

I took my FRA Simulation in two parts, and after the first part was over I was sure I had blown it.
So , like you do, I went home and revised some more ready for the next time.
When I went back for the second half I said that I realised where I had gone wrong, and could I correct my errors.
I was told that my answers were'nt as bad as I thought they where and to carry on.
Just like the exams, if you make a mistake but follow it on its only one error.
I did pass the Sim thankfully, and I have heard nothing about NOT being allowed to correct any mistakes.

I personally feel that it would be poor practice not to; what company is going to keep on an assistant or accountant that knows they have made a mistake but havent corrected it because they was taught not to?

I think we would all agree and say that it's wrong to put something like that into practice.

    In short - no!

Our class and the other aat classes have to come in on a saturday morning to the adult education centre and sit them in full. ONLY if the paper was not completed i.e. half of part 2, only then was a student allowed to resit the second half.

They were not allowed to correct the earlier sitting's paper.

Katherine

No wanting to stir trouble or anything, but I know of one college that allowed their students to take Unit 7's home with them if they hadn't finished on time.

True

    Mick
The standards department at AAT would appreciate the name of this college

They work very hard to try to make sure that where ever a student has studied and achieved AAT he or she has had the same stringent academic integrity.

If colleges allow students to go home and have access to all sorts of notes and friends to help then the whole of the AAT's integrity is brought into disrepute.

I recommend a confidential call to AAT on Tuesday.

It is worth it for you, when you apply for jobs with your MAAT you don't want the interviewer to say "oh we had one of them before- the qualification isn't worth the paper it's written on"

I have to agree with the above post, it makes a mockery of the whole scheme if this sort of thing is allowed.

When I sat my ECR sim it was done in exam like conditions, in one stint. This is how I think it should be done.

When I sat my FRA sim the tutor (a different one from above) kept leaving the room. In his absence many people were blatantly showing others their work and discussing the answers. Apart from being off putting to those who were still trying to work, surely this was unacceptable?

Personally I can't understand why people want to do this, I would gain no satisfaction from knowing I had "cheated" to pass.

Following on from this I feel it is unfair for some people to be allowed to do these simulations over 2 or 4 weeks and then correct their previous work. What about the people who had no option but to sit it all in one attempt? Surely we should all do this the same? Then either no-one would have the option to correct their work, or everyone would - much fairer!

Lynn
