Has anyone done the Level 2 Payroll course as home study? How many parts are there and how long does it take?

I asked the same questions a couple of months ago and I didnt get much response!!

I think if you get it funded - then go for it.

If you are paying yourself - then you have to consider if its worth doing as if you are doing Accounts why do the payrol as well.

I do payroll everyday and wished I could take the course to just get the qualification, but funding this myself would not benefit me as I can already do payroll.

It all depends what you see yourself doing in years to come and if you can afford to take the course.

(Premier Training do the payroll home study course!)

Amanda

The accounts qualification and payroll isn't exactly interlinked though. If you work in accounts all day (which I do) then the payroll could be a useful to have for further job prospects etc. I agree in your situation unless a qualification is important to you, it'd probably be useless - I find the same with half the AAT so far!

Premier Training? Never heard of them. I gather they're similar to BPP & FTC?

Care to outline the difference between Premier & the others? Is it cost? Service? etc.

Thanks

Premier is the same as FTC and BBP.

I have heard many bad words spoken of BBP but at the end of the day - everyone has a favorite and Premier is mine!!

My tutor will always answer a e-mail within 12 hours generally and can be phoned anytime with 2 late night openings.

I think as FTC is a well known provider I would have thought the tutor to students ratio would be higher - but i might be wrong.

I struggled to use Foulk Lynch books in foundation as there where loads and loads of errors and I know FTC have taken them over so I hope that there is an improvement to the books.
I use osbourne books now and finding them great.

Amanda

Hi

I've just signed up with Premier to do Intermediate, and I have found them to be cheap, very helpful, and they seem to provide an excellent service. My tutor is very friendly and has got in touch quickly when I have needed him. They use the Osborne books as well which I have personally found to be the best.

Good luck, and tell them Amanda and Tracy recommended them!!!

Tracy

Hi Amanda

I'm not particularly ahead, I gather you take yours next month? I started studying both Foundation and Intermediate at my local colllege last September with the intention of taking the exams this June. However I found it hard going with 3 children and 2 part-time jobs, also I had a personal set back in January, so I abandoned the Intermediate. However I kept up my reading etc, and I have now just completed 2 sets of Financial Statements for Companies House for one of the companies I work for (one was almost a year late, I've finished the other one today which isn't due yet), so I feel pretty confident with the new skills I've picked up. Inititially I was only going to do Units 6-7 with Premier and 5 with my college, but my Tutor retires in December, so I decided to also study unit 5 with Premier, (coursework turned up on Tuesday). My local college are letting me sit in on the Intermediate lessons until December when I can take my exam, and I have arranged to begin Technician in September at college, with the intention of using Sep 05-Jun 06 to take a part of the Technician exam, and complete my Intermeditate Portfolio (after my exam). Fingers crossed this is how it will work out! My intentions are to complete asap and set up my own company, then start studying ACCA. Whether this actually happens is another thing, but I decided last year that I needed to do something for myself and not just be a "mum"/"partner", I also need the flexibility of choosing when and where to work, so that my children always come first. I work from home at the moment for 2 companies and although it's ideal, it doesn't pay the money I want!!

Good luck with your studies, I've joined your MSN Intermediate recently, was under the name mumofthree36d, but have now changed it back to columbia 1803, so no doubt we'll chat again soon!

Take care

Tracy
