What a load of croc ! We went into college last night, even though we were on half term break as we were warned that we were going to be shown Backward Variances.....I wish I hadn't now. Talk about sending us all into panic mode !. Can AAT really expect us to know this in two weeks? and something that is not even in our BPP manuals....HELP !

P

Backward Variance - Wot a Larf !
Since the message I put on yesterday I have got to work and spoken to my boss about it. He is studying CIMA and lent me his text book because it covers backwards variances.

What a nightmare! I had not even heard of it until yesterday so am really worried now.

Best of luck with it if it comes up!0 -

Hi just thinking on this...surely if you have learnt the variances already then working them out backwards would only require a little bit more work as you effectively have the answer and then need to follow it through to get the workings. Hopefully this is correct!

Good luck!0 -

They way our tutor illustrated this was a note of total actual costs, actual variances and a cost card with lots of information missing! If this comes up you won't have the same sort of question that is familiar to 1.1 as there would be no point is asking you to work it one way and then backwards. From what I understand it will either be a small question similar to a reconciliation statement but in reverse in addition to the normal 1.1 or a much larger question similar to that presented by our tutor in place of the normal 1.1 which will test our understanding on variances to the limit. I'm hoping the PQ article was there simply to spook us into extra revision and is not a real possibility.

0
