Since attaining MAAT status in 1999 at the tender age of 52, I have specialised in reconciliations mainly centred around Money Purchase Pension investments. This proved to be very lucrative until the beginning of last year when the market in this area seemed to dry up. Since then I have lurched from one temporary assignment to another, none of which involved my preferred area of activity (i.e. Pension Recs).

It seems that I am paying the penalty for working outside the accounting mainstream. For example I saw an job advert for a Management Accounting Assistant. This required MAAT qualification plus experience. I have the former but not the latter.

Clearly, I need to change direction. I would like to get some experience in Financial and/or Management Accounting and am prepared to offer my services free in exchange within say, a ten mile radius of where I live.

I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire...................any ideas?

    Qualified but lacking experience

    Hi BrookValer

I suggest you to contribute your time in doing some volunteer job with charity as such honorary treasurer. After you have gained the necessary experience you could apply for finance work in local government. Hope you good luck.
