Am already stressed about exam on 14th but to make matters worse I am doing Unit 3 simulation on Wednesday and have just done a practice one and absolutely nothing adds up - TB's don't balance, journals just seem tobe gobbledy gook - I am feeling worse than if I had not bothered to do a practice simulation - think i may be trying to do too much and am having a memory relapse (if I knew anything in the first place).
Has not helped me feel any calmer for the exam!! Sorry - I feel much better just for writing this - not expecting anyone to be able to do anything about my problem.

Ok - first things first stop panicking. If your Tb doesn't balance first divide the difference by 2 and it may show up you've got something on the wrong side. Next check you've b/fwd balance for the Cash Book i've left that out 3 times in a row. You might also have missed the discount rec'd or all'd figs. there's time to write your TB in pencil then go over it in pen when it balances at the end of the exam-somehow that helps me think 'it's ok I can always rub it out' ! stupid I know but it works for me. As for journals the only way I can do them is to write out what the original entry was in little t accounts and work it out from there. Give it a go - it really helps. and remember ifpush comes to shove you can always re-sit in December - it's really not the end of the world.
Good Luck SGH
i hate doing it in pencil aswell but it feels alot easier than pen for some strange reason ! so i will probably do the hard parts in pencil and easier in pen, and its probably easier on the examiners eyes too

dont forget to use deadclic on the TB

    Hi

Papermate make pens that can be rubbed out, I find them alright and will be using them in the exam, they don't write particularly fine and wouldn't be my choice to use daily, but they rub out really well and you don't have to hand in work covered in tippex, which never drys the same colour as the paper.

You can also use PEARLS on the trial balance, the PEA are all debits and are Purchases, Expenses and Assets, the RLS are all credits, and are Revenue, Liabilities and Sales. Remember drawings are a Debit (it begins with D), and Capital is a Credit (it begins with C). Discounts Allowed are a debit, I think I saw someone post this once as DAD (discounts allowed debit!), so received is the opposite (Credit).

Good luck!!

Tracy

I'm in a real panic about the exam next week. Whats 'deadclic'?? Heard of the 'Pearls of Wisdom' and also 'Debit the Monkey' (same thing just different tool to remember it by) but deadclic is a new one. Any help to get through this is greatly appreciated. (Even been waking up at 4.20am screaming in sheer panic!! How mad is that! Hubby almost had a heart attack!)
