Oh my dear what a flipping awful exam. What the hell were they asking for in the last question. Everybody I've spoken to has got different answers. seeing that there were only 2 tasks in Section 2 there must be an awful lot of weight on that part.

The question was really ambigious did they want know. I proposed the subcontracting because the profit would be greater than if we manufactured it ourselves.

The woman took the paper off me because I'd run out of time. Didn't even finish the report. Didn't have time to check any of my answers.

I agree the task was terrible. I just wrote a load of rubbish hoping to pick up some marks in it.
I also struggled on the ABC question, I'd forgotton how to caluculate the standard overhead rate.

I think I'll be resitting in December!

    PEV Question 2.2

Why do AAT do it? If they are testing us on competency why makes things so ambigious. If this was a work situation which is what NVQ is supposed to be centred around you would ask somebody.

Was there a right or wrong answer for question 2.2.
I think that the general consensus is that there wasn't a right or wrong answer, as long as you backed up your opinion with relevant explanation then you shouldn't be penalised. I still think the whole question was far too vague, it wasn't at all what I expected.

    PEV Question 2.2

Ohh my Gosh I cant believe... this paper was an absolute disaster. vague information in 2.2. i wouldnt mind taking an examination like that but the study materials as well as past papers should reflect the same level of complexity as well. and quite surprisingly it was such a lengthy paper.bcoz of time constraint I had to write a very frugal report and couldnt even recheck my answers. Is it possible if anybody can post down answers for 1.2, 1.3 and 2.1(if its allowed) after every one from all the regions have taken the exam!!

Thanks

    PEV Question 2.2

My argument is that in the real work place, if you didn't understand what was required of you, you would ask and someone would re-word it. I know you can't do this is an exam but aren't we all working towards learning how to practice accounting in a real working environment? I feel quite confident with what I know but when I don't understand what someone wants from me its impossible!

    PEV Question 2.2

De De... I agree, I've found several times that I'm faced with situations in exams where I'd actually be asking somebody to re-phrase something, it's unfair to expect us to understand what they want from us first time round. What frustrates me the most is having to learn all the SSAPs/FRSs for the DFS exam - this is another example of how the AAT aren't promoting accounting in a real practice environment, as in any normal situation an accountant would look these up. Still, if that's the way they want to play it then we've gotta put up with it.
