Hi all,

Just wondering, as a Distance Learning student I opted to sit my exam at PLP Wolverhampton (at the Britannia Hotel), was there anyone else from this forum there? I was amazed, people started drifting out after about 1 hour 15 mins. But I don't know whether or not this was because they had completed the exam in record time or whether they had given up! I heard a lot of deep sighing going on and not much noise in the way of clicking calculators. I took my time and finished with about 45 mins remaining, then took another 15 just to read through my answers. I felt that I did ok apart from the 'objectives' question, my brain went totally dead on that one.

How long did you all take? Am I just slowing down in my old age??

Tim

    Hi Tim

One person in our college left after about an hour - we wondered exactly the same... Were they brilliant and hugely talented, or did they think it was a lost cause and just leave!

At the very end of the exam I would say that about a quarter of the students were still there. With the majority leaving within the last hour.

Obviously I only know this because I was there right till the end, lol!

Personally I get very nervous under exam conditions so prefer to double and triple check everything as I go through, hopefully to stop any silly mistakes due to nerves! I prefer to do it that way and make full use of the time.

The fact that some of us had made a pact to meet at the end of the exam to exchange thoughts (swear and cry!) meant I would have been at college for the full 3 hours and 15 minutes anyway!

I have been thinking about doing distance learning next year, but wonder if I will be too lonely!

Lynn

    Saz777,

Wow, you are the only person I have heard say that they found it easier than past papers!

I could do the practice papers in an hour at home, but nerves aside, I still thought this paper was harder than the practice one's I'd done.

Lynn

I finished in just under 2 hours. I would have completed it quicker if I hadn't got stuck on the journals in section 2. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I had to credit suspense with £700 (2 lots of £350) for the 4th journal - still don't fully understand.

I thought that on the whole, the exam was slightly easier than the last 3 papers. It was a pleasant surprise not to have to do an ETB or a balance sheet. That appropriation account was a bit nasty though and harder than any of the other partnership questions in previous papers. It just goes to show that you have to revise absolutely everything.

I was also caught out with that last question on stock reconciliation. I hadn't revised that at all so I waffled on about errors, damage and theft in the hope that one of my points was what the examiner was looking for.

I fluffed the FRS 18 question too - even though I new the four objectives I put down two concepts - I thought they looked stupid at the time duh. But apart from that I was quite happy with the rest.

We had some speedy workers too - surely nobody can work that fast. I did hear some perforation ripping of the second section really early on and thought how on earth have they got there that fast!!!

Must have had their weetabix.

I loved the fact that we didn't have to do an ETB or balance sheet - I always fluff ETB's first time and end up making a mess to correct them. In an exam situation I think i would have hated them more.

I found it easier too apart from the appropriation one which took several minutes of head scratching and a few crossings out but got more or less something reasonable in the end i hope
