Just thought I would cheer up all the people, who like me are convinced they have failed DFS.
Our tutor for DFS was asked this morning what she thought of the paper and she said it was very hard. When asked how she would have done if she had sat the paper she " I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO IT, ESPECIALLY IN THE TIME GIVEN".....................I rest my case....and I wonder why I have failed this unit. With a tutor like that. It's a disgrace. AAT need to look into the teaching of their courses and spend more time judging them than failing us. It is the tutors that fail us, not the papers.

are you at a college or a centre? I attended college when sitting Foundation and I think I knew more about the work than they did!!
0 -

hmmmm... don't mean to stop you from feeling better, far from it but personally I think your tutor is covering her back a bit. Bright sparks in our exam where leaving after 90 Minutes.

Personaly I thought it was a fair paper with a lot less to do on it compared to Decembers. There may have been areas on it which haven't been tested, paticulary in Section 2 (ratios) but it is the job of your tutor to highlight this and teach you.

At the end of the day, if her pass rate for students in her class is below national average then..... hmmm, maybe you should have chosen a different place to study.0 -

She doesn't teach. She gives out hand-outs and then leaves you to get on with it. I was half way through the course before I realised how bad she was. She doesn't know her Debit's from her Credit's. When she gave the hand-outs for Cash Flow Statements she said they were really really hard and it had only just sunk in with her how to do them.
P.s I want to thank you for sending me the email last night on the June paper. The two bugets against the actual really helped me today. Thanks.0 -

your welcome, if it helped you pass PCR then it was worth it. I sent about 20 emails out last night.

As for your DFS tutor, seriously think about complaining. If your company has paid or even your yourself then I would feel cheated if she was just a 'hand out' merchant.

You can get fellow students to send you 'hand outs' by emiail :-o)0 -

Are All the tutors for DFS not able to teach properly. I was given handouts till they came out of my ears but not much of that was in the Exam. Do we need to complain or is the pass mark going to be lowered, I think most folk found the exam rediculous. :-(

Sorry about spelling not my forte0 -

<<She doesn't teach. She gives out hand-outs and then leaves you to get on with it.>>

That sounds terrible!!
Our tutor used hand outs, but only ones she has written herself. They would contain several exersizes. She would go through the first one herself 'on the board', then do the next few as a group exersize, then the last ones individually.
We had regular progress tests to make sure we were keeping up and highlight any issues we had problems with.
She really knows her stuff, I couldn't fault her at all.0 -

<<When asked how she would have done if she had sat the paper she " I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO IT, ESPECIALLY IN THE TIME GIVEN".....................>>

Our tutor grabbed a copy of the paper when it was being handed out & completed it whilst we were in the exam.
She did it in a fraction of the exam time.
When we came out she was waiting for us to talk it over.
She's been like that evey year since I started on the course. I thought all AAT tutors did that.0 -

You are one of the lucky ones. I don't know how I have gotten through this year. Self taught I think. Still no point in going on about it is there. I have finished now and when I do my re-sits in December I am going on to CIMA so hopefully they will be better.0 -

Well I must be one of the lucky ones - I attend college and my DFS teacher was excellent.

He taught us everything that came up - I just didn't remember it!

He did say that he thought that the Jun 05 paper relied heavily on theory than usual, which he thinks spooked a few people.0 -

I think I may well have been in the same class as you and whilst I agree that the teaching methods were not great this year we all have to take some responsiblity ourselves. Mind you, the subjects covered in the exam may have been in the book but were not in many of the previous exams and this doen't help either - clearly people will use previous papers for practising!! However, if it was all made too easy would we be satisfied when eventually we do pass I think we need to stop relying on our tutors and AAT being there to help us, any achievement in passing has to be down to extreme hard work by ourselves, this week just about clarfies this!! Good luck in December!!0
