Sorry if this has been posted before, I imagine it's a fairly popular Q but I've tried searching and cannot find!

Simply put, I'm doing technician after just finished my intermediate a week ago or so! I wish to do the tax papers so I guess I have 5 papers to do?!

What do you recommend in terms of what papers to do and when?

I want to do it all in one year, so papers in Dec 2005 & June 2006. Is it recommend I do the tax papers in Dec 2005 & then the rest in June 2006 or ?

Thanks

    Hi there

I have just finished tehcnician and our College did the DFS and BTC together and then PEV/PCR. The PEV and PCR were taught simultaneously as they are both based on costing (management accounts) and some of the chapters in the text book applied to both units.
It definately worked for our class.

I am about to start the same 5 papers you are Matt
I am on home study and my tutor has recommended me to do PEV and PCR this christmas
then she says that the two tax papers and the DFS i can sit in June

However, i had planned in spacing the course out for 18 months, so she advised that if i didnt feel ready for all 3 papers in june i could easily defer one or two till the following december.

She did say that ideally DFS should be sat before the tax papers, but as i would have studied for the exam anyway, so then she would be happy for me to leave DFS till the december if that was what i wanted.

The only thing she was concerned about was if i deferred the tax exams till december, then failed one or both, i would have to re-learn parts as tax changes year by year.

Not sure if thats any help to you
Good luck

    Shaz

Like you, our tutor will start teaching the 2 tax papers in Jan06 so that we can take the exams in June 06 and then any resits in Dec 06, so that we do not have to relearn any new tax points between exams

Our college teaches Technician level from Sept 05 to Dec 06 (4 terms) to make it easier on the exams and project front. Some people don't like this but I'm all for it.

I'm in the middle of doing my Technician level now.

I was doing Intermediate and the two tax exams at the same time - I took FRA, BTC and PTC last week.

This leaves me PEV PCR and DFS for December (providing I pass the others!)

Again I was recommended to do the tax exams in June because if I fail them, its the same tax bands etc in the December exam.

I'm not sure if I've taken on too much for December but I'm having July off from studying!! I have my project to do also still.

Hi ShazAAT,
I would like to ask you about home study. I would like to know whether home study is same route as if you do at college or it is AAT route which I heard that is quite tough, I mean that is all exam based not Simulatios which you can do as in college. One of my friend said aat will send me those simulation and I will be able to do at my work place and will send them back to aat and they will mark for me I have no need to go to any college all i need is a exam centre where I will do my exams.
Thanks

I have just taken four exams - PEV, BTC, DFS and PTC. We took PCR at christmas. I think it is better to do the 2 tax papers at the same time because of the change in tax bands - so if you take them in the June and need to retake one, the tax rates etc will be the same in the December. Also some of the criteria crosses over between the two tax subjects. So if you don't understand it in one tax session, you might in the other.

Good Luck

With home study, the skills test can be sat at work under supervision.
I had to get the general manager at my place to write to Premier Training and confirm that he was willing to act as supervisor.
He then had to accept delivery of the tests and be responsible to pass them to me and take them back after the given time.
He then had to sign to say that i had sat them under supervision.
Ok
Shaz
