Having just completed three years AAT study and through this time have had to keep a protfolio what use are they.

I have been told we have to keep them for six years but I believe my foundation one has already gone to the waste bin in the sky. I would never show it to my employer and I do not think any prospective employer would ever as to see it all they would be interested in are the cerfificates.

I just think they are a total waste of time and space does anyone agree.

I disagree with you, I will not through my own work. It's my evidence that I deserved to be an AAT qualified. If you respect the certificate more than your own work then I know that there are some countries who make duplicate certificates but you will not be proud of it.

It's just my openion.0 -

Wen

I have been told by my tutors, that you have to keep your portfolio's for 3 years after completing Technichian level. This is because AAT can call for your portfolio at any time, to verify that you have passed all the units!!

Oops!0 -

I was also told that I needed to keep my Technician portfolio for 3 years, just in case the AAT or someone else wanted to review it

I asked a lecturer at college what I needed to do to complete it (the auditing and project sections were already signed off) and he said just stick a CV and Job Description in it and it will be fine! I have not done anything with my portfolio since receiving this advice, and have now filed it in my loft, where it will stay till 2008

I tend to agree with some other postings at the moment, what's the point of the portfolio? No-one checks it is finished, no-one has to review it, the whole process seems like a waste of time and effort to me!0 -

As of next year, (I think it's next year), portfolios will not be required as part of the AAT course.
It just goes to show that they're not really that useful as even the AAT are making them obsolete.

Almost everything in the portfolio is covered by the simulations and the exams and the project. Why stick 'duplicates' in a file to prove that you've done what you've done!

The only thing I would say is that it's quite useful to have all of the work done over the 3 years together in one file. Just think it could have been done more succinctly.

0 -

I haven't done this 'Technician Portfolios'... My college lecturers told us that there is no Technician Portfolios, so I only have AAT intermediate portfolio at home. (I didn't have to do Foundation since I've got book keeping qualification)

I just finished my final 2 papers this month and I though I can just enjoy myself this summer while I wait for my result.

Do I need to ask for Technician Portofolios and start getting my lecturers' signatures? It would be difficult/impossible since I changed my college after 6 months and I wouldn't be surprised my old costing lecturer has lost his job since then.

BTW, no one has never, ever asked me to see my intermediate portfolio, probably because they have never heard of it!0
