There are loads of salary surveys carried out each year. If you google it then it comes up with tons of salary calculators. One thing I remember from one is an AAT intermediate qualified person can expect to get between 12k-16k a year depending on location, age, experience etc. However, salaries are very context dependent and so individual I would not take this as gospel. You may have to start low and work up, just make sure you get what you are worth in time. Good luck.

First of all congratulations on the job!

I can suggest you try www.haysworks.com (click on Accountancy & Finance on the left) as they have a salary guide section which should give you an idea of the kind of salary you should be getting.

Hope this helps

Kelly

    Well done on the job!

I think it also depends if you work in industry or in practice. In Industry you are more likely to get a better pay, whereas in an Accounts Practise they are quite tight! - and i should know! I went onto Hays Accountancy website, which i think is pretty helpful too.

If your salary is not what you hoped it would be, stick at it as you are still young and the experience of working in accounts will do wonders for your CV if you decide to find a different job later on.

Good Luck with it though and i hope its what you want!

Hi

Well like yourself I have only just turned 18, and have completed Intermediate (awaiting results) I think the bracket of £12-£16k is right as I have 2 years experience of accounts in industry and I am currently on £15k. Check out the website too though for guidence. It seems like your in the same boat as me with a less experience, but as mentioned stick at it and its worth it in the end...I mean I started on £8k as a school leaver with no foundation or experience so it all adds up mate.

Hope this helps
