Hi

i've just completed the intermediate level, and i know that i'll be doing a resit in dec of FRA.I'm quite sure that i've done enough to pass ECR though.
Now my college wont let me go on to the tech level with a re sit, i've found another college that does the cousre @ 6 separate modules.

If i have passed the costing but failed the finance i've been told that i could resit @ interm. again, join back in with the next year's course but continue on with the tech level @ costing.

Does anyone know if this true, and how does it effect me taking the other comp and choice modules? i know that i wouln't be able to continue the FRA but there are other ones e.g PEV PCR and DFS???

Help....
DFS is FRA plus some.

PEV and PCR are the costing / budget papers.

Then you've got two tax options, a cash management option and an audit option - choose two.

I would say go for it, otherwise you'll spend a whole six months on one paper, which is an unnecessary delay if you can cope with more study.

Although I did know someone who tried to do 2 Tech papers and 1 Int and he didn't actually turn up for the second Tech paper - maybe it all got too much?!

I'm a bit confused why your college wouldn't let you do technician with a re-sit from intermediate.
At my college you could do technician even if you failed some intermediate exams. It just meant they had extra work and more exams. A girl I know didn't go to college for the last 6 months of intermediate, but joined back in technician and then sat 3 exams (1 intermediate and 2 technician) in a June sitting.
As far as I know, as long as you are doing the new standards for both years, you can take them when you want.

Our finance tutor, also head of department, told us she couldn't stop us from starting tech if we failed any of the intermediate papers but did warn that you usually pass the intermediate resit but at the expense of one of the tech papers. May not be the same for all colleges and/or students but this was her experience at our college. Lost track of what everyone did and didn't achieve but I'm sure her prediction was right which increases the pressure come the June sitting. A couple of students opted for only part of the tech course while they finished the intermediate which seems a good idea - still progressing if only in part means you don't feel like you've wasted time and still keeping pace.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

RE Going onto tech level with re sits.

I started Tech level with both int exams to do - the AAT had mucked up my exam entry so the Dec in Tech level was the first time I sat them.

I had no problems starting tech level and it didn't hinder me at all! I took both the Int papers and a Tech Paper in the Dec and spread Tech level over two years - I wanted to take my time and pass rather than cram it all in and end up doing resits.

I've now completed Tech level and just waiting for AAT to acknowledge and send Certificate so I can apply for membership.

I've never heard of anyone not being able to go onto Tech level with o/s Intermediate papers!

Good Luck!!

Helen

Perhaps you could do distance learning? That way you are in charge of which exams you enter. I don't think it matters which order you do them in - several people at my exam session this time were doing PEV/PCR as well as ECR this time, so it defiantely can be done.

Don't take no for an answer!

Good luck,

A

I don't see why they won't allow you to go ahead with technician level, as I did without knowing the results of my last intermediate exam..in fact the college encouraged it.

Our college policy for this year just gone was that you had to pass at least one Intermediate paper to sit Tech level. The coming year is that you have to pass both as most people struggled and didnt sit all the June Tech level exams when also sitting an Intermediate one. Think it depends on what your college allow, how much time you put in and then make a concious decision what you are going to enter for when the June exams are approaching. Also whether your course is over 1 or 2 years. ours was over 1 year (some people spread it over 2), but they were talking about making it a compulsory 2 year course at our college.

I did personal tax in Dec then sat 4 exams in June. I have to say it was very hard going doing 4 in a row. But, hey, go for it! Good luck.
