hi,

i know this sounds soooo stupid but i have done my practical bookeeping courses at college and my computerised accounts anmd passed all of them a few years ago.

the problme ive got is ive just started a new job doing property management which i have done before no problem but my new boss used too be an accountant and he has seen my CV which states my exam results for my accountancy courses i have done.

anyhow my boss is on his hols at the moment but he left me a journel and wrote headings on it for me too do the books only for purchases which i have no problem with, but he said to me after you have entered them into the journal all you need to do is invoice them now this is what i dont get as the reciepts are all for goods purchased for works and equipment, stationery etc soo i cant for the life of me think how too invoice them as they have already been paid. the only thing i can think of doing is getting a petty cash voucher book.

my boss is currently away on hols for 1 week and i have only just started the job 4 days ago but really want to get this done for when he gets back but dont want to mess it up.

anybody got any suggestions im sorry for sounding really daft but its been sooo long since i did my course that ive forgot half of it.

thanks
Karen

It sounds to me like this is more of a problem with your boss's instructions than your lack of knowledge!!

From what you've said, there is not enough information to see what he wants you to do, it all depends on your systems and procedures.

I would do as much as you can and leave it until he gets back, tell him you didn't want to mess it up and ask him to explain it better.

Annette0 -

I agree with Annette, I think that it boils down to lack of information.

It may be that he wants you to invoice a customer for the purchases, but you can't be expected to know if they are invoiced at cost or what mark up is used, especially as you have just started the job !

The only suggestion I have is, is there anybody there who has worked for him before who might have an idea what he wants? Otherwise, I would leave things until he comes back.

I don't think it has anything to do with you forgetting anything, every company does things differently, and doing an accounts course doesn't make you into a mind reader !

Good Luck,

Shushana0 -

Kazza,

I assume your boss is back now. Please tell us how you got on. I'm sure he was really understanding, but it would be good to know you still have your job.
0 -
