This is a bit long winded, but the thing is I have just finished intermediate this being the second attempt at FRA, first time I passed section 2 but failed section 1. I passed costing first time. Don't know if I intend to do tehnician, depends on FRA results. At the moment I work in an accounts office of 2, myself and the account manager. At the end of the year the accounts manager is off for 6 months on maternity leave. I have the option of doing her job whilst she is away, we would get someone in temporary to do my job. The work I do I would say is mainly foundation level, so to take on the managers job do you think I would be biting off more than I could chew? At the onset I would be doing year ends. The manager intends to teach me her job 1 month before finishing, if I decide to do it. When she is off I would have no support at all apart from the external Accountants we use, any help from them as you know would be costly.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi

It sounds like a great opportunity, an if it were me I'd do it. But thats me!

I suggest sitting down with your manager (and any other related persons) your manager's boss or general manager etc. and discussing it. It may that perhaps you could take on some of the work and keep some of your own with the temp doing what ever else.

Neil0 -

I think you should go for it. It will be hard, but if you go through it with your manager then i'm sure you will be fine. My advice is take lots of notes! And if you're not sure about anything then now is the time to ask. You'll be kicking yourself later if not.

If you do need help when she is away, then ask for it. Even though it may be costly, it will probably be better in the long run. You've had a lot of experience already - more than you probably think - so i'm sure you will be fine!

I also think you should carry on to Technician as you have come a long way already! I resat my FRA for the 2nd time this June and i will probably be resitting my ECR in December! I'm determined not to give up now though after all this work i put in!

Good luck and let us know how you got on!

P.s Sorry about the essay - I'm at work and VARY bored!!
0 -

by taking the more experienced position, it may even help you with your studies as you will be doing more relevant tasks to the level of your AAT qualification-not just foundation stuff all the time.

Don't give up no! you have come too far.

If you don't like the job, you can always go back, but if you don't give it a go, you won't ever know!

good luck!0
