CAT - qualification

CAT is the ACCA version of the AAT. As far as I know it is comparable to AAT but AAT is more recognised. You get the same exemptions from ACCA with both. NeilH will probably advise you better but I think CAT is exam based only and no work based evidence required but if you are already doing AAT I would stick with it.

Annette

    CAT - qualification

As mentioned by Annette, it is ACCA version of AAT. in other words it is just another technician level programme.

AAT is achieved by simulations - skill based assessments , external examinations and the portfolio but for CAT, the initial two levels are computer based examinations and last level are paper based examinations.

AAT is very practical. if u opt for CAT you will learn the theorical concepts and understand them just by solving practical examples, nothing like simulations. AAT is much more interesting . it really teaches you what u are going to face at the workplace.

CAT - qualification

    Hi

Did I hear my name?

Yeah on the whole CAT is exam based though you do need to complete 1 years work experience and complete a log of practical competenced in order to get CAT.

Might be biased here but I think the AAT qualification is better. The syllabus is slight broader, the assessment standards are higher and AAT is more widely recognised, including for exemptions. In addition, CAT doesn't offer membership like the AAT does. You can join something called the CAT alumni but you dont get the CPD provision or self employed licences/regulation. The benefits of the CAT alumni are the same as those given to ACCA students (including the magazine), this is fine if you want to continue studying but doesnt really support the CAT as a stand alone qualification.

Neil
