Hello there,
Sorry i didn't reply earlier but have only got internet access at work and have had a busy day.
Right, technician level, which way to go?
It really depends on a number of things:
- how much time off for college will your employer give you? None, 1/2 day or full day?
- which units do you want to take? (DFS- accounts production, PCR & PEV - costing & MAS- Managing accounting systems project. These are all compulsory as far as i know) But you need 2 more units out of the optional ones, some of which are personal tax, business tax, cash management and auditing.
- do you want it completed by this time next year in your ideal scenario? to my knowledge, the two evenings/week timetable was run over a 4 term period, so if you go that route you prob wont take your last exams till a year in december and so wont qualify until a year in feb!
- finally it depends on what you want to do when you have finished your AAT, are you moving on to another course - if so then you should find out now what units you need to gain all possible exemptions and benefits when you move to the next step!

My advice is try and get it done in one year usng the aft / eve course, and try and make sure that Bill is teaching you as many of your units as possible! No disrespect to Chris as a tutor, but i got the impression that with all the commitments of running the department he just didn't have time to plan the lessons properly! And this is where Bill's strength lies - he provides very useful notes and practice excercises every lesson, and included in the notes are examples which he will work through with the class. The notes are so comprehensive, that he tells his students not to buy text books. So in response to will i sell mine, i'm afraid the answer is i dont have any to sell!! He got me through level 4 without once looking in a text book, and that will save you some pennies too!

Monday lessons panned out as follows:-
13:30-15:30 Sep to june, Bill took DFS - Drafting financial statements, this is compulsory, took exam in june and passed (I really thought i'd failed this one and still dont quite believe i didn't!)
15:30-16:30 Sep to june, Chris offered guidance with MAS project - don't leave this to the last minute, it is a 4000-5000 word project and can be a pain if you dont get it done sooner rather than later - mine only got done started 3 weeks before the exams in june, and i had to do it all in pretty much a week - Bad Idea!! TRUST ME! I passed it though and somehow managed to impress Chris at the same time, pot luck i think!
16:30-17:30 Sep to june, Chris took auditing - this may or may not be run depending on the level of interest, i must warn you, it is VERY VERY boring, but i work for a registered auditer! Main benefits to gain: If you want to take ACA next it will gain you an exemption, Also, it is assessed with a DEVOLVED ASSESSMENT rater than an external exam! less pressure n all!
18:00-21:00 Sep to dec, Bill took PTC - personal tax computations, sat exam in december 2004 and passed
18:00-21:00 Dec to june, Bill took PCR & PEV - the two required costing units, sat exams in june 2005 and passed.
The one unit which i haven't taken is BTC - business tax computations, i could not fit this in my timetable, i think they were running it jan-jun in the monday morning, and i could only get the afternoon off! I'm gonna do it home study and sit the exam in december i think cos it gains me the final possible exemption when i start the ACA. You may not want to butt i think a girl in my class taught herself it from sept to dec last year, while she was also doing PTC personal tax at college, and i'm sure she passed both. To be honest, i'd of prob done the same if i thought about it, two tax exams in dec should be manageable if i can do three in june!!
Ok so i've rambled quite a bit i hope i've given you some help, anything else you want to know then talk to Bill or Chris Rynkiewicz(department head) if you do speak to chris, it might be like trying to get blood out of a stone, but nag him and you'll get there eventually! i think he is heavily involved in arranging the timetable so he's prob your best bet!
I'm gonna go now cos i'm still sat in my office and work finishe nearly an hour and a half ago!!!!!

Good luck with everything!
I'm sure you'll be fine and trust me, technician stage isn't half as scary as you think, even with a full time job it is manageable to pass it and still have some sort of life.... just!
Hi there,
Thank you so much for your quick reply.Sorry for delaying your home time!!!
I totally agree with you.It is bill who can provides very useful and important notes and matching practice excercises for every lesson.Since i am working in a law firm as legal cashier, have got a clue about costing ,but once you rely n Bill's notes and guidelines ,it is a piece of cake,no problerm!!
At moment i am still not sure how much time i can be given for college,my boss is on holiday ,but i really want to do the same as yours AFT/EVE course.
You have mention auditing class ,is it part of cash management and credit control course?if i am not going to this ,can i choose to Business taxation? so is it means more exam?
Now i come into an idear that i will do two exams in this year DEC(business &personal tax),in June next year take the rest of exams ( DFS/PCR/PEV).starts my MAS project at early stage. What you think is it relistic or not? I would like to konw your oppions .
WOW ,you passed all your exams without any textbooks ,if is really unbelievable ,it proves the importance and brilliance of Bill's notes, now i have a thought maybe souds ridiculous ,is it possible you will sell BILL's notes to me ? The reason for this is i am worried if my boss will not give me anyday off ,i can not have Bill's class as much as i could do in AFE/EVE,so if i can hav Bill's notes although not attend his class,i really want to finish AAT in one year.
I am really sorry for these silly and ridiculours questions, will be much appreciated if you can help me again.
Thanks again for your truly and helpful suggestions
Best regards
chaoliss

Auditing and business taxation are both separate units within the "optional" units available to you! If you don't do auditing, you can do business tax instead, but if you want to do the exam in december you'll have to teach it yourself, the college run the lessons jan to june for this unit unless they've changed it, but you'll need to speak to chris or bill to be sure.
Doing both tax exams at dec is def achievable, and then taking the rest in june is normal.
I only took one tax unit at dec and had loads of spare time on my hands, in june i took, DFS, PEV and PCR, as well as doing the project, and then at the end of june did the devolved audit test once i'd finished the other exams.
if you split them two exams in dec and three in june and fit your project somewhere in between i'm sure you'll do fine.
Finally, although i can see where your coming from, but i personally think that Bill's notes are at their best along side his tuition and perhaps would be less comprehensive on their own. If you cant get in his class and are worried just chat to him, he's a relly helpful guy, but as far as i know he tutors most of the classes anyway so you should be able to get on one of them!
