Hi all

I just wondered if anyone out there is just happy to have got AAT qualification rather than using it as a stepping stone to ACCA/CIMA etc.

I have just completed Technician and I don't think I want to do anything further.
I am 37 also and do feel a bit past all the studying/exams etc.

I know other more 'mature' students have said they are carrying on with something else.

Just wondered if I was alone.

Thanks
Sharon
a lot of people do AAT and stick with the qualification because it is an accounting qualification in its own right. I did ACCA after AAT because I also wanted a Chartered qualification due to circumstances that I deal with at work. AAT is very much widely recognised and employers more often than not these days want people with accounting qualifications but not necessarily to be a Chartered/Certified Accountant so AAT is ideal for that.

Well done on passing AAT and I know only too well it isn't a qualification that is simply handed out - you have to work for it.

Regards
Steve

    Thanks Steve

That was very kind & thoughtful of you.
I think I will just stick with it for now (too late anyway to register for anything else this year) and see if I feel like carrying on next year.

Best regards
Sharon

    Thanks sharon

Just another thing I forgot to mention - you're never too old to carry on studying I know a woman who was 52 when she started ACCA and passed it at 55. Just goes to show doesn't it!

Good luck and happy resting now as the dreaded wait is over for you all.
Ste.

I feel the same, so am going to take this year off and do other things and see how I feel at a later date. Many of my feel students felt much the same too so don't feel pressured into doing it as ACCA/CIMA will mean an awful lot more work and committment.

Yes I'll be happy just to have my AAT qualification, as I started when I was 50, and I'm hoping to finish next June.
I won't be going any further; too much of a strain trying to fit everything in, full time job, looking after a house, and ailing husband, so I'm quite happy to settle for that.

I will be very happy when I finally achieve it - started on old level back in 1995 - obtained all but one unit of Technician level - gave up studies for about 5 years to get divorced and remarried - having to re-do all Technician Level again (why do they keep changing the standards !) - have just passed both Budget papers - and starting on DFS in Sept. So hoping the long wait will be worth it.

I am 44 years old, work and mother to 4 boys aged 9-19. I have just completed AAT and astonishingly not had to do any resits, although I was convinced I would have to do Unit 8 again.
I am going to start ACCA because I have enjoyed my AAT even though it has been hard work. I am doing it to help me progress at work but even more for personal achievement, and with the initial view that I will continue with it for as long as I enjoy it.
My view is that you're never too old for a challenge. Good luck with whatever you decide.
