I started straight onto Technician level which I hope to have completed by the end of the year.

I purposely chose all the exam based options so I wouldn't have to faff about with collecting work-based evidence and all that paraphenalia. Also, I have a good job which I enjoy and don't envisage wanting to change for some time, so I won't need a portfolio for job interviews.

According to what I read in the Accouting Technician magazine, all I need for membership is proof of ones years relevant work experience plus something signed from my employer (both of which I'll have).

So do I need a portfolio at all ??

Anyone know different ??

Whats the point of the portfolio ??
All I had in my technician portfolio was my CMCC assignment and my project. As you are doing exams you will only need it for your project.

Annette0 -
Whats the point of the portfolio ??
I've just finished Tech and I haven't done a portfolio.

Although I didn't do one for Foundation or Intermediate either - such is the benefit of studying block release with BPP! Once they've signed off your devolved assessments, they didn't seem to care what I did with them!

As long as the relevant units are signed off by the college and they tell AAT, there's no need to put together a beautiful file. Unless you have a quiet winter evening to fill!0 -

Hi Lilibet,

I also studied with BPP and didn't bother doing my Foundation or Intermediate porfolio, because as you say, they don't care. I then had a phone call from one of the admin staff at BPP saying that the AAT were auditing their portfolios and could I send mine to them by Monday? (This was Thursday pm.)

I then had 24 hours to get the whole thing together which was a total nightmare, as no-one there could help me with what to put in the damn thing! SO BEWARE!!!! It could happen to you.0 -

I had my portfolio 'audited' by the AAT, but luckily I had been slowly building it up over the 3 years. All I did was to get my managers permission to copy some work I'd done (blanking out confidential info) and put that in under the relevant unit, together with the front covers of my devolved assessments which were signed by my tutors. I don't know if a prospective employer would really be interested in it though.0 -

Whats the point of the portfolio ??
The portfolio is part of your qualification so strictly speaking, I guess they could ask for it now you've got membership and suspend the membership until it was done but I really doubt they would do it.

Annette0 -
Whats the point of the portfolio ??
To me it kind of makes a mockery of the whole thing that some people do them and some don't! I spent a lot of time on my portfolios for Foundation and Intermediate, and got a sense of satisfaction from doing it actually, including work place evidence, though I agree for Technician I only had my project and devolved assessments, there was no need for anything else. Presumably the inconsistency is at least partly why the AAT are bringing in the new Diploma pathway where you don't have to complete a Portfolio.0 -

Ive had my portfolio "audited" by the AAT at both levels of Foundation and Intermediate. What are the odds??? Im hoping that i wont get done this year at Technician level as i will have a different surname!! Getting married soon.0 -

As Karen says the portfolio can be audited, so even though you may never need it - you might the unlucky one that they call upon to provide a completed and signed off portfolio.0
