Hi,
I am thinking about doing the technician stage as home study. I have done the foundation and intermediate at college.
Does anyone recommend it? If so, do I have to pay a fee to my local college or something to sit my exams there??

Hello!
I did the Foundation and Intermediate at college by day release. I have just got a new job where day release is out of the question and because of child care issues I can't do evening classes either. I registered with Premier (premier.co.uk) on Wednesday who were brilliant. We discussed options, a study plan and when I wanted to sit the exams. My full pack of textbooks etc arrived yesterday. I admit to being anxious about homestudy but I am really excited about it now. The luxury of not having to trapse into college and to 'being my own boss' as such is such a nice thought!
Best of luck with what you decide. Do let me know.
Regards
Nicky0 -

Sorry - forgot to say, as far as I am aware you don't pay a fee to your local college to sit exams there. Premier provide you with a list of approved colleges.
bye0 -

Hi

I did all of intermediate and technician by home study, though i did do a revision course for DFS. If your used to college you'll probably find home study a big step, but it can be done!

As for exams, the booklet that comes with all exam entry forms has a list of centres/colleges that will take external candidates (candidates that are not their own students). You choose a center from the list and enter in on the exam entry form. Some colleges that aren't on the list will also take external candidates but you would need to check with them first and these centres may charge you their own fee in addition.

Neil0 -

Hi

If you don't have to do home study and you can find a good college, go for the college. Home study for the technician is extremely hard and time consuming and very stressful. Technician level is completely different to intermediate and takes a huge amount of effort.

Best of luck on whatever you chose to do.
Eva0
