Right I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I've just successfully completed AAT Intermediate stage and was hoping to start the Technician Stage in September. I'm currently suffering from stress/anxiety and I don't think I'm ready to start in Sept.

Do any of the colleges start later than Sept?

I live in Birmingham but it is just a general query.

    AAT Technician January Courses???

I'm studying technician with Premier Training. They are excellent. They use Osbourne books which are extremly well laid out and cover everything in detail with lots of case studies and practical examples.

I find home study works really well for me. I can go at my own pace and if it takes me 10 hours to get to grips with something no-one knows except me ! There's no peer pressure from other students. Having said that, you have to be disciplined and very self motivated.

Technician level is detailed but if you work in an accounts environment you should be OK. I took both tax modules (exams) which I found interesting and they start from scratch so assume no prior knowledge. DFS is intense and there is a lot to it. The standards are a bugger to get to grips with cos there's so many of them but to be honest with you, I don't see how a college could do anything other than tell you to read them - and you can do that with home study ! The rest of it is very number crunching. Judging by the comments I've read on the forum, a lot of colleges tried to second guess the questions that would come up and hence failed to teach students large parts of the syllabus. With home study you feel more as though you need to read everything, which will serve you better in the end !!

Good luck whatever you decide :-)
I used the Osbourne books for Intermediate last year, they are good, especially for the revision exercises.

I'll prob give this a go, to be honest I didn't really listen at college as it was an evening class. I passed after a lot of hard revision at home.

    AAT Technician January Courses???

You might find that some of the colleges near you take students from January as well as September. I'm at Bradford College and I started Technician there in January so I will finish in December 2005. I haven't found I've missed out on anything even though I'm six months behind everyone.

    AAT Technician January Courses???

Hi werthers93, I think if you get in touch with Bournville College you might find that you're able to start there in January. Before we broke up I was speaking to the tutor about Technician and he said if I didn't pass Intermediate and wanted to wait until after the resits to start it wouldn't be a problem as the course is split and they start something new in Jan. I would imagine other colleges do the same too.
Enrolment is this week during the daytime or next week Mon-Thurs up until 8:00. 0121 483 1000.

Hope you're feeling better soon!
