Please, I would appreciate a response.

After becoming a member with AAT, we can use MAAT after our name. But to what extent does or will the outside world recognise the value or weight of this membership.

As in, would I be able to sign a letter, declaring income of a sole proprietor to a mortgage leneder? And will the leneder accept my letter as genuine as a letter from a Chartered Accountant or Certified Accountant.

Please all views count.

Different building societies/banks have different rules as to what counts and what does not - best thing to do is ask the lender whether or not they recognise the AAT qualification.

Student grants are good fun though - all you need is a company stamp to be able to sign off income for those - £5 from Staples and an evening with a pair of tweezers and hey presto one company stamp!0 -

Hi

According to the AAT, the majority of high street banks will recognise the AAT qual though they may put a limit on the turnover of the company an AATcan report on.

If you are signing off something in your name as an AAT member, you will need to be a member in practice or you may be breaking AAT regulaltions.

Neil0 -

So from scale of 1 to 10.

What would MAAT weight be in order to sign off something.

And what would it be for ACCA, CA.0 -

If an MAAT was recognised by a bank (for example) to sign off 'the books', an ACCA, CIMA or ACA wouldn't have any more weighting in those instances since in the banks eyes thay are all capable.

ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW etc are considered senior to the AAT but that doesnt mean that they would necessarily be considered senior by banks etc for the purpose of signing off records in cases where MAATs were permitted to sign.0 -

After a sleepless night I have had to ring the AAT on this matter. I have signed mortgage stuff as MAAT and paniced as I am not a member in practice. If you are employed and are signing it on behalf of the company (and covered by their indemnity insurance) then it is okay.

Luckily I am not going to be expelled!!

Annette0 -

Hi

Anette (just read you post on accountancystudents.co.uk!), I should have pinted out about the MIP thing only applying to self employed members who charge directly to the client etc.

Neil0
