Can anybody give me any inspiration for a theme for my project?<BR><BR>Iif anybody can give possible titles that would be great. I currently work for the council and don't really do anything such as purchase ledger, petty cash etc, all I do is monitor revenue for which we already have quite an efficient way of doing so.<BR><BR>Thanks!<BR><BR>Laura

    Laura,<BR><BR>I did my project on Staff Attendance, how attendance is recorded, how staff are paid, the problems within the system, possibilities of fraud etc...I found this area to be pretty slack as far as control and procedures go.<BR><BR>I would imagine your council has a lot of operative staff, bin men for example, you could look at how they record their attendance and take it from there?<BR>Pete

    <BR>As I don't work in an accounting environment I was given a simulation about a company and their accounts department which once I had read through I could see obvious flaws in their staffing and organisation.<BR><BR>I theoretically put in place a work rescheduling/organisation for the accounts staff, analysed training needs and current qualifications, addressed current staff issues as well as talking about security (fraud) issues.<BR><BR>I suggest you have a chat with your tutor or college, they may be able to help by bouncing ideas off them. <BR>

    Laura,<BR><BR>I work in a council too, could you tie in the budget monitoring with the year end closedown. i.e the link between expected outturns in, say September, and actual outturn at year end.<BR><BR>There's a whole variance analysis thing to be done at year end against estimated outturns. Both probably require training for finance and non-finance staff and there's always the possibility of fraud, if the monitoring doesn't work well.<BR><BR>Alternatively, you could look for your external auditors report on how the council closed it's accounts and improvements that they expect to see in following year.<BR><BR>

    Wow - thanks guys - that's great! <BR><BR>Sorry to but into this thread - but I've been trying to think of a theme for my project for the last six months and was getting quick desperate - but staffing is a great idea. <BR><BR>Thank you - you've made me see a glimmer of hope in the MAS tunnel.
