AAT in USA?

Hi Claudia, Ive been looking into this one myself so Ill tell you what I've found out and see if it helps.

After completing the highest designated level of Accounting in your sector (e.g, CIMA, ACCA) you can apply to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) (Their website is www.iacpa.org) from there you can apply to the The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA - www.aicpa.org) for your license to practice in whichever state you like (subject to practical experience too, there is a PDF download with all state requirements on the website, requirements differ from state to state)

This is the only way so far I have found out how to attain the relevant credentials to practice in the USA, however, if you find out about another way I would be interested in knowing it too.

Hope this helps.

Luke

    AAT in USA?

But there is nothing like AAT? I mean, something you study in USA before ACCA? I wrote e-mail to ACCA USA, still waiting for answer.

    AAT in USA?

    Here is the answer:

"I'm not sure what AAT is to compare to something in the US."

Looks like if I'll decide to go to USA, Iâ??ll need to take ACCA straight away.

    AAT in USA?

    Hi Claudia,

I've recently been browsing on the net looking at jobs in the states as possibly going to go and work there for a while.

Not once did I see AAT mentioned in the job requirements, but I did see CIMA and ACCA.

I'm not planning on going for a few years until I have completed AAT and ACCA - when are you thinking of going?

What's this about the other licence you have to have to practice over there?

Anyone know what sort of salaries someone could expect?

I'm sure there would be an accounting job for you, but it may be that AAT isn't a recognised qualification over there hence you'll be seen as with no qualifications. I don't really know though!

<< Hi Claudia,

Not once did I see AAT mentioned in the job requirements, but I did see CIMA and ACCA. >>

Yea, but is there something like AAT in US? That's the thing, which interests me most and thatâ??s why I created this thread. I know CIMA & ACCA are recognisable there. I am asking about something you study in US before them. But looks like everybody misunderstands my question and I am not getting answer I really want

    AAT in USA?

Ok..... well we're only trying to help here!!!

The questions I asked were also aimed at Luke because, like me, he said he had been looking into working in accountancy in the states.

What I meant by that quote is that ACCA and CIMA are definitely available courses and from what Luke said and the response from ACCA USA, it sounds as though you'd have to go straight into ACCA. I was also assuming that you'd want to go on to work in the states and therefore you'd be interested in the requirements.

You didn't say much in your original post so I don't know if you have any accounting experience or not, if you have then you may be fine starting with ACCA.

If not, then I'm sure you could find an institution offering accounting qualifications to give you the basics (would prob be a degree). I think the way it works over there is you go to school until you are 18 and have a subject which you 'major' in (i.e. accounting) and then go off to "college" (university) to study it further. Then you would do ACCA/CIMA.

I'm not sure 100% sure on how it works though or how you'd go about being a international student in the US though. I'm sure ACCA USA would be able to help you there.

Well I don't know if that was any help or not, but hope you find the information you are looking for somewhere.

PP22

It was quite easy, because everything what I learned I do at work, but now, I started intermediate and everything is new to me. But I found new job as Bookkeeper, maybe it will be some help and more experience Thatâ??s way I am asking about something before ACCA, because as you see, I donâ??t have a lot of knowledge about this thing.
But as you said, I can go to some college there. I think there really will be something
Thank you for your help Very nice of you.

BTW, are you in intermediate level at the moment too?

    AAT in USA?

I would have thought with your experience and AAT foundation you would be ok to go onto ACCA, but if you feel better doing another course first I am sure you will find somthing! You may find you already know alot from partially doing AAT so maybe they'll you go in at a higher level? ALthough maybe not if they don't recognise AAT!

Get in touch with some US colleges - I'm sure they'll give you all the info. you need.

I am studying intermediate too yes - sitting exams in Dec, scary!! :-)

No problem - happy to help!

PP22
