I am finishing off Technician this year and am wondering how many hours study I should be doing for each subject. I fit college in between 2 jobs and self employment so I want to make sure I am doing the right amount of study so that other things dont get in the way of me passing my exams. I received my text books last night so I am ready to go!

I have three exams in December:
Personal Tax - Studying at college 3 Hours a week
Business Tax - Studying at home using the Osbourne Book (passed business and personal tax by devolved assessment but have to do it again as an exam due to change in standards)
Payroll L2 - Studying at home with BPP (not yet received my home study kit so not sure what the plan is!)

Will be doing two exams in June:
Financial - Studying at College 3 Hours a week
Payroll L3 - Studying at home with BPP

Anyone know a standard amount of hours that should be done so that I can work a planner round that number of hours?

Thanks

Kerry

How many hours should I be studying?
Kerry,

The only time I 'studied' revision wise was leading upto my exams although my employer was very considerate with this. I did approx. 1 x 3 hour session per day for 10 days, for each exam, although in reality the 3 hours was ususally more like 2, dwindling to 1.5 the more confident I got. I was also doing 3 hours per exam at college per week.

I passed all exams first time and found the above to be more than adequate.

My advice would be, study the course curriculum 2-3 hours per week per exam (ie at college/ distance learning).

And also study in total 15 hours per exam prior to sitting (ie revision, as 5 x 3 hour sessions).

Good luck!
Pete.0 -
How many hours should I be studying?
Wish I could have done it that easy Pete!

I found I had to put in about 2/3 additional hours per week to ensure I understood the subject fully.

I agree with Pete about the approx 15 hours in the run up to the exam0 -
How many hours should I be studying?
Thanks for the replies both very helpful.

Gill - Those additional hours is that additional to college hours?

I was thinking along the lines of between 3 and 6 hours per week per subject so I guess you both confirmed what I was thinking!

Thanks

Kerry

0 -
How many hours should I be studying?
Dunno bout easy Gill, there were times PEV/ PCR/ DFS just drove me round the bend but we had 2 very good lecturers and luckily, for what I found to be the hard subjects, we were pushed to the limit.

Plus I was given 8 days study leave per exam which came in handy.

Nice.0
