Having completed a excellent taught Foundation level which most class passed with flying colour on signing up at college for the intermediate level, we were told that the college has sub contracted the course to FTC.
On attending the new classes there are quite afew of us that feel the pace is very fast teaching and are struggling to keep with with queries not answered in the class room but advised to email
Is this normal for Intermediate level to cover at this speed with note taking and minimum examples within the class time and all other completed at home. Im now thinking of giving up. Your view appreciated

I feel exactly the same. I started foundation with FTC and am now doing intermediate. Im finding it too difficult, simply because the pace is too fast and only a couple of examples on each bit. I work during the day and come home and study straight away and i still dont understand it. Panicking quite a bit now and have actually though of giving up. But gotta give it my best i guess. Im in the same boat as you mate.

Chris.

I'm at the local college and we're going pretty fast too. If you're doing an exam in December, I think it's unavoidable given the timescale. As our tutor warned, 'It's going to be Hell until Christmas.' Look on the bright side, as we've done Foundation there's only two more units to do after this.

Chris

I did intermediate last year and it is very much more fast paced than foundation. We all struggled with the leap in the amount of home learning and homework needed. Lots of us thought we would never make it through the course.

Don't give up - it will all start to gel together. We used to meet up once a month or so, to study together, and this really helped.

Good luck!

    Mayday

Your contract is with the college irrespective of how they have decided to organise your course.
I suggest you and your classmates make your view clear to the management of the college.

I received an approach from FTC for another course at the college where I work. I am interested in your comments about the appropriateness of how they deliver the course

Sandy

It quite difficult if your on day release like me. Its only one day a week so you have to do most of the work by yourself. I always try doing the questions but have to look at the answers straight away because i have no clue what im doing!
Hi Mayday,

As a tutor, I think that the step from Foundation to Intermediate is a pretty significant one. As such, it is only natural that initially, you are experiencing a shock to the system! Keep plugging away - if you can get into the right studying habits now, you'll get there in the end! If fellow students are struggling too, why not try to get together and have your own study sessions? I know students who have done this in the past, and have found it very helpful.

I also agree with Sandy Hood's comments - if you have a grievance, you must take it up with the management of the college. There may be some things they cannot change, but in other respects they may be able to help. Regardless, they have a duty to listen, and you have nothing to lose - things can only get better!

Best of luck,

Andrew Harrington

if u skipped foundation and you are doing health and safety wrking with comps etc god bless u. I was actually annoyed that i had to do foundation especially as its not really relevant to intermediate but its excellent to get the waste of time units out of the way and get a decent udnerstanding of the trial balance and debits and credits etc.

but yeah just stick with it and give it your best shot.

A lot of people like me work full time and do the course in evenings and weekends and I'm finding it taking all my time up. I skipped foundation and struggled with FRA to start with - I always looked in the back of the book and was often wrong. But the more I practiced and did all the simulations in the tutorial and workbook and past exam papers it suddenly got a lot easier. I thought I would never understand it but it does make sense in the end.
I feel like you are feeling about costings now as I have only just finished the tutorial book so none of it seems to have stuck very well - its just getting through the tough bit now that matters. like a previous message says at least you don't have to do the extra stupid units again.

Its a brilliant qualification so a few weeks up to the exam of hard work and a few grey hairs will be worth it!!!!

Thank the Lord!!! I'm not the only one. I was so happy to see your comments, as I thought I was the only one, I was starting to think I was a bit dense!! I was a little concerned that the lesson was taught giving one example test, then sent away with lots of homework on the subject, following day, move on to another subject and so on and so on. I have spoken to my employer, who I am fortunate to say, is very understanding. As i work full time and attend classes Monday and Wednesday evening, my boss has said I can spend Tuesday morning at work to complete majority of Monday nights homework, and Thurday morning on the majority of Wednesdays homework. This leaves me Saturday to complete the homework and briefly read up what we will be studying the following week. Is the company you work for understanding? Could you broach the subjuect with them? (print this page and let them see other employers do do this for their staff) You never know, if you don't ask.
Good luck!
