Hey there!

Who is your training provider? I'm doing my intermediate with BPP.

There are 3 units for Intermediate:

Unit 5: FRA (Financial Records and Accounts)
Unit 6: ECR (Recording & Evaluating Costs & Revenues)
Unit 7: PRR (Preparing Reports and Returns)

You will need to do mock and actual skills assesments for all units and a central exam for both 5 and 6.

Also, don't forget you need to complete units 21 (working with computers) ,22 (health & safety) and 23 (personal effectiveness) at some stage if you have not already done them at foundation level.

Hi thanks for your reply, I'm doing distance learning with Preston College in Lancs. this way I hope to combine years 1 & 2 into 1 year and am due to sit my exam 6th Dec. and hopefully the intermediate level in June.

I have taken 2 assessments so far with Unit 3 due after half term. Not sure about 21 thru 23 - not heard anything about them at all yet.

Was just thinking if I knew which books to get for Intermediate I could perhaps get some reading in particularly over Christmas. My tutor says the student class who started in Sept will be half way through Unit 7 by then so I've got some catching up to do.

Do you know exactly which books I need?

Thanks

Hi again!

I'd speak to your college to get the names of the exact books as I am unsure as to what training material they use. As I am with BPP, all of mine are BPP texts if you see what I mean?

Those are the names of the 3 intermediate units though and imagine the titles of the books will be that, if not, very similar. You will need to do 21, 22 and 23 at some stage but again - check with your tutor, they will probably say you need to do those off your own back as they are not really taught subjects - more collecting portfolio evidence.

Hope that helps you? Have a look through this site too - there are usually ads for books for sale, you may find what you need here for a cheaper price!! Although I would have thought the college would somehow supply you with the books as they will be using a specific training material.

    Hello ScoobyDoo.

I am also studying towards Intermediate level at college. We were issued with Osbourne Book for Intermediate. I would have thought your college should issue with the relevant books (unless distant learning is different).

Good luck anyway in your studies.

Sinders

At my college we're using the BBP books, there are five of these:

'Interactive Texts' (ie tutorials)
Unit 5: Maintaining Financial Records and Preparing Accounts (FRA)
Units 6 & 7: Recording and Estimating Costs and Revenues (ECR) & Preparing Reports and Returns (PPR)

There are three workbooks ('Assesment Kits') one for each Unit.

I've also been using the Osborne tutorial book for Unit 5 (Financial Reports & Accounts: David Cox) and I think it's a lot better than the BPP equivalent though somewhat more expensive. I'll probably pick up the Osborne tutorial book for the other two units at some point too. I can't comment on the Osborne workbooks as I've never used them.

Taking on two levels in one year seems like an awful lot to me, I'm going flat out just to be ready for the FRA exam in December, so good luck.

Chris

Thanks for all your help guys, I'll check it out with my tutor.

It may be that 2 units is too much in one year but the distance learning at least makes it flexible enough to try. I started Foundation in Sept and think I'm on target for my Dec exam but no idea what awaits me in the Intermediate level at least I have the option to delay it if I'm not ready but I know what you mean it's just study study at the moment!

Good luck to everyone!

Scooby - I'm sitting both intermediate exams in Dec and only started studying for them around summer. I'm not that confident I'll pass, but I'm going to give it a go - you know how the old saying goes! You don't know until you try!

Just keep at it - will all be worth it in the end! :-)
