I completed and successfully passed my Level 4 exams and work portfolio in 2002 but as I had not fully completed the Project was not considered qualified by the Association. I have received some correspondence from the AAT this morning asking me if I would kindly take part in a questionnaire to determine why I did not completed my studies and introducing the New Diploma Pathway which has now removed the need for completing the traditional work portfolio!!!

I am considering re-applying this year to complete the project in order to complete the level and receive full membership of the elusive MAAT. Does anyone know if the project still forms part of level 4 or whether it has been removed from the syllabus to make way for the new Diploma Pathway??

Technician Project
The letter you received was sent to a number of people in error, I am a MAAT and I received it! So it may be a bit of a red herring. The new diploma pathway is only 1 way of doing AAT, I don't know if it has removed the project but I would have thought even if it has you would have to continue with the pathway you started. You probably need to call the AAT and check.0 -

Re:Technician Project
Hello anyone out there,
I still have to do my project, the college weren't very helpfull with ours and didn't really give any guidance at all, I started to do it but left the company I was at and now can't get it signed off. Can anyone suggest one that can be done supplied by the AAT? Do I pick these from the books I have or can I get them from the AAT direct. A tutor has told me that I can get the likes of BPP to mark it does anyone know whether this is true.

Re:Technician Project
Hi
You can do a 'simulated' project, based on a written senario. You'll need to register with a college/centre as it is the college/centre who will supply and mark the project, not the AAT.
BPP used to allow you to buy simulations alone with a marking service included but without the tutorial service. There has never been a mention of it on their website so you will need to contact them directly. However, the simulations alone are about two thirds of the price of a distance learning course so you might want to enrol as a distance learning student and get all the books/support. If you do decide on the distance learning option, BPP, FTC and Premier Training all provide courses as a single unit.

Re:Technician Project
Suzanne,
If you have completed, or nearly completed a project, could you go back to your old employer (or perhaps a supervisor) and ask them to sign it off. It doesn't seem right that you should have to start again. Otherwise, do you have a new employer, or do you know of a local charity whose systems you could do a project on. If it is still the same as when I did mine, you only have to review and suggest improvements for one part of the accounting system. The main thing is that you cover all the criteria.

Re:Technician Project
Hello,
If you work in an accounting role, the best way to do the project is based on the company you work for rather than by doing the simulation. The simulation is certainly not an easy option. We offer individual support for students in achieving this unit. We have a guide which helps you carry out the research in your company and write a report. If you are interested in purchasing this unit from Eagle contact me 01978 722511 or visit www.eagle-education.co.uk
