Unit 10 advice

Hello

I am completing intermediate this december and are looking at the units in Technician to enable me to communicate to my employer what areas of work I need to produce evidence for.
For unit 10 I have an idea of what I could do but the managing people bit is not possible as I am not in charge of anyone and are not likely to get that level of reponsibility whilst I am training.

Can you do extra questions to cover this area like other units??? I hoping to take on extra responsibilities for other parts but not this one.

I need answers quick for my job appraisal.

Ta, Torix

    Hi Tori.

If you absolutely, definitely can't base it on work you can do a case study instead. It will still need to be 3,000 words long.

    Thanks Scott

I am reluctant to do a set case study as I was going to computerise one of our small companies on Sage to cover most of the assignment (which would help me and work a great deal), it literally is just parts of the managing people bit I can't do.

If you or anyone else knows anything about this that would be great.

    Hi Tori,

My tutor told our group that if you do not work in management then they will give you a what if scenario and you write on that, so you should still be able to do it on your work. Transferring to Sage sounds like a good one to do.

    Hope this Helps

If you are computerising a small company, can't you do the management bit on their training and instructing them how to use the system. You are going to come across managing people to implement it. I did mine on making a manual bookkeeping system but had to ensure the clients gave us the right information and 'bought in' to the system and that was sufficient.

I don't think you have to manage people, you just have to be able to write a bit on how your manager should manage them, Ie recommeding training Hope that makes sense.

I didn't have anything I could use at work. I did have an offer from a good friend who is a self employed builder but I thought that I really didn't want to know too much about his personal finances so I am now doing my report on a local charity that I approached. they were more than happy to let me do a free report for them and I think I'm getting more out of it that if I had used the simulation as I am dealing with real people and real problems. I'm not connected to the charity at all so the managing people bit is covered by reviewing their skills etc and making recommendationss. Good luck and I do hope you find something that you can get interested in as it will make the report a lot easier to write! - and don't worry about the word count, once you start writing its suprising how quickly the word total adds up. I am also doing the auditing module at the moment and that is really helping with the report.

    Hello

Thanks for your thoughts - they are really helpful. I've contacted my tutor to see what he thinks of some of your ideas. I can see how I can easily recommend how people could be managed in certain situations if they arose.
I do work for a charity so hopefully it will be interesting to see how to set up the accounts on Sage. Hopefully I will know more how to go about it all when I start the technician year but your info helps for the appraisal objectives.
Really helpful talking to people who have been/are going through it already.
